New to forum..first attempt at knife making

Oh just another old tip the fits so many things you can always remove more material later to don't cut too much out too early.

Thanks Pirate, all great advice! I did draw some sketches but agree, making a blank out of wood first probably would have been best. I was thinking about the hand sliding forward but after holding it, it actually feels really good in my hand so I think I got lucky. The tang extends the entire way through my palm and out the bottom. I think a little thicker may have been better though. I will definitely follow some of your suggestions next time. Thanks!

Welcome!

Knife making is a great craft to learn. It involves many different processes; from design and forging, to steel choice and heat selection, along with a thousand other choices. Take the time to learn as much as possible. The more you learn the more you can put into the knives you make.
The only advise I have for a neophyte, other than enjoying the experience is in the beginning don't try to hit a home run by trying to create your own signature blade. For the first 25 or 30 blades, copy accepted styles. Standard hunting knife shapes or blades you see in every kitchen. Once you have developed the skills required, then design a signature blade you can be proud of.

Happy Grinding, Fred

Just got the others cut out last night. They all feel really good in the hand but the bottom one needs some tweaking and definitely needs to go on a diet!

I'm seeing most of your pics, but not all of them....

Anyway, welcome to the addiction. My condolences. :D

Looks like you tried to post on this morning? I don't see it if so. And if you posted 3 with your last photo(s) before that, I only see one.

Same for me , out of the last 4 pictures you posted I only see 1
