New to Forum "testing the water"

There is a lot I need to learn, I like to do research before I jump into something, no need on wasting too much time and $ on something that doesn't work.

Welcome Shawn.

Here is the bottom line. There are many accomplished makers on here (I'm not one of them btw) but if you actually listen to advice given to you and follow it you'll do just fine. The problem some folks on here run into is they post a question about trying to do "x" and people will unanimously agree it's wrong and offer the correct course of action. Then the person basically says "thanks for the input but I'm going to try it my way anyway". Avoid this and you'll be miles ahead of the game.

Also be aware that folks don't always agree what the correct course of action is. Sometimes opinions are stated and that's the end of it... other times, a full blown debate ensues. We are trying to make Shop Talk a place where civil discussion can lead to productive results. Just know that we are all here to become better makers, so if you find things getting heated, take a step back and assess the situation for what it is.

Welcome Shawn. I don't know if you SC guys know it but The North Carolina Custom Knife Makers Guild is just up the road. There are some great makers willing toanswer all questions. Would love to see you guys at the next meeting. Come check it out. http://www.ncknifeguild.org/

I would be interested in trying to come up to a meet. I didn't see on the site where it says when the next meet will be. I have been in contact with some of the local sc guys that are in the SC association of knife makers but not replay to my email or calls.
