New to H.I. fourm!

It's a pleasure to meet all of you!!!
Uncle Bill, your pretty close I was 15 when I got my 1st khuk.Mohd, it was a 9 inch Dhankuta and a British army service.I still have all my knives, I'd be crazy to part w/them!! The quality of my older khukuris is very good but the new ones comming out of BirGorkha are even better!! The handles are much tighter and the blades are polished better. I'd consider selling or traiding for newer khukuris if anyone is intrested!

Well, the old memory is not completely shot. I remember Chris and I had many nice phone conversations and as I recall I think I asked his mom if it was okay for him to buy the khukuris he wanted. When I'm dealing with youngsters this is what I generally do -- get the parents okay.

Now Chris is a man and a good one I can tell. I knew he would be after our phone conversations of years gone by.

Never know what strange turns karma will lead us around. Now here Chris is a man posting on the HI forum and when we started together he was a boy and I was spending all our income on magazine ads.

It's truly a small world.
Ran into a guy about 5 years older than me that posts some over in the CSSDSC Forum the other day. He's another old fart like me that also uses a cane or stick to get around with. Come to find out he lived on North Main St. in Tulsa when I was in and out of Turley back during the same years.
Back then there was a little country in between, but now you can't tell where Tulsa stops and Turley starts.

And in one of the WebTV newsgroups, that's behind a firewall, I ran into a lady whose kids live across the street from our kids in Pennsylvania. Ya just never know who's gonna show up next in the cantina.

It would sure be nice if some of my old boyhood friends that I knew all over Turtle Island as well as some I knew in boot would drop in the Cantina.
I still often wonder how they made out during the Korean War and Nam and if they're okay.

Interesting stuff.

When our ship pulled into New York back in 1952 I got liberty and, of course, had to visit Times Square. I was standing on a corner looking at all the sights and drinking a glass of orange juice and who comes walking by? A classmate from Cherokee, Kansas! It is a small world.

It is a small world. I just bumped into an old friend I knew from New York at our local mall!

welcome, SkagSig40. Now all we need to do is find a few more local HI forumites (say, 50)and we can push Northern Colorado beyond Florida and I guess Oklahoma as the new Khukuri Capitol of the Western World. Then maybe we can talk Uncle Bill into holding a Khuk Konvention in Rocky Mtn. Natl. Park.

Mochiman1,Nice to meet you!I've lived in Ft. Collins for 22 years and just bought a house in Windsor. That would be awesome if uncle Bill had a convention around these parts! Hopefully some day soon I might drive to Reno to visit H.I. home base, maybe we could carpool, it's about a 12 hour drive!!!Where do you exatly live? how long have you been into Khukuris?

It would be great to have a campout in the National Park and with that many khukuris what's the park rangers gonna do anyway, call in the National Guard?!?!?!?! (VBESEG)

I mean it wouldnt be anything like clear cutting ya know.
And if there's any chokecherry growing there I could cut some much needed drum sticks.

SkagSig40--maybe we don't need to promote Colorado as the Khukuri Capital of the Western World after all in order to get Bill and the others to hold a Konvention in RMNP. We're not that far from Oklahoma, after all, which by my reading is neck and neck with Florida as Khuk Capitol.
I live north of Ft. Collins, and altho it feels to me like I've been interested in khukuris for a vast uncountable number of years, I can't escape the cold hard reality of memory slippage. On my BF sign-in it says I joined BF in Aug. '99, and it was probably a month or so later I got my first khukuri. Geez, it feels like a decade.

Oh, come now Jim, everyone can tell that's a toupe you're wearing. You don't expect Yvsa to show up at a pow-wow with a toupe on his belt, do you? I mean allow the man a little dignity! A pelt on the belt, yes, but a toupe ???

Jim!!!! I am Surpised at you!!!
What Have I Ever Done to make you Nervous?

Actually it wouldn't be the "K" you would need to be worried about, But the .357 Mag, IF a bear happened to show up in camp.
By the way, do you snore like a Bear?
smile.gif

I do, and I wake myself up occasionally.

Speaking of bears and other large mammals. A friend has a place down by Eureka Springs Arkansas and Barb and me have camped out in their front yard in a tent when company overflowed the house.
The next weekend they had a bear in the yard. And now there is a very large cat that Ralph has seen as well as his neighbor and the Fish & Game Dept of Arkansas won't believe them.
I ain't camping out there no more unless I have a tiger proof tent.
