If you aren't kidding
then you may as well order a 25" AK

If you can use a hammer
then you can use an average size khuk
no prob

Handling is more technique than strength
I am not strong at all
18" AK chopping thru several 4-5" branches no prob
& I've used a sledgehammer for an hour at a time
to break up concrete flooring
technique, not strength

I notice the weight more on my belt than in my hand.

I've done some rock bar work recently, and you are right, it is basically the weight of the bar that does the work and how you use it. Same deal for really any chopping weapon I guess. The reason that I am going to stick with a 16.5" for now is the size in general.

About the weight on your belt, where do you and other forumites wear their Khukuris? I was hoping I could rig up a way to wear it on my belt, but on my back with the sheathe turned sideways. Maybe I'll put it on the strap of one of the bags I usually carry if that doesn't work out.

A few of the guys use a Baldric to carry their khuks, especially the heavier ones.
Looks like the best option going.:D

Greetings Overure:) welcome to the Cantina!
It looks like you've got your choices narrowed down. Me personal favorite of them is the WWII. I'm around 5'10/5'11 and i like the 18"er myself. Like yourself I don't have the biggest frame, but i do workout fairly often. I probably have around the same build, but i'm 30lbs heavier. Really, a khuk won't wear you out all that much, and honestly there is very few exercises that can train your muscles for that kind of movement other than maybe using a hammer for a weekend. I'm sure as a fellow weight trainer you've found out that working out and working are two different things;) I can't tell you how many times I've thought i was in pretty good shape only to go pour some concrete with my dad and find out how super-sore i was the next day. You're gonna love your knife regardless:D
On a side note, we have quite a few younger guys in the cantina these days. You're around 21. I'm 23. I wonder how many regulars we have under 30 these days. Might be worth a thread later on. Anyway, welcome once more!

A while back Sarge did a graphic instruction for making a baldric, I have it somewhere but can't lay hands on it.

So far I've just used the belt carry on the off side, balancing the pistol on the right isde of course :D. You will probably want to take off the brass scabbard tip (chape?) so it won't poke you so badly in the calf (one of the advantages of shorter khuks.

On my main pack I have a slick setup where the khuk sits in the pass-through slot along the left side (as you're wearing it). The slots are to carry skis or other long narrow objects. The scabbard fits nicely inside and is tied off at the top, since the slot has no bottom. The khuk can be drawn with the left hand, and sometimes replaced. Unfortunately, with the khuk attached to your pack, it is not neccessarily with you at all times.

edit: Holding on to 29 with all my might ;)
