new to knife making

Hi! I'm brand new to knife making. How can I become the backyard knife maker or the budget knife maker. I've watched a lot of videos but they always leave things out. I learn better by watching than reading. I do know the differences of steels and I am a fan of both stainless and carbon steels. What is the best way to get started and what do I need. If there is anyone in northern Va or Wv that I could get with that would be great. I just want to learn the beginner way to make a knife. Where do I get a good piece of cheap steel.
 
You will have to do alot of reading,even if you don't want to.It's the only way to get the info you need when you need.I think the best way to learn is by doing.

Hey Count, love your reply to new knife makers :thumbup:

In it you have a link to a pic of a file station. Do you have a how to on that? I would love to make one of those but more info would be nice :)
