Hello, and thanks for the opportunity to post here. I am a toolmaker by trade and am looking to making knives. I have tried a few in the past but never finished one. I have the convenience in using our shops tools on my break. The main trouble I am having is getting the grinds on my blades to be symmetrical. The other issue is finding a reputable place to heat treat the blades. I live in Tn, I thought of sending them into Buck for heat treat. I have access to O1, A2, 1095 and 5160; looking mainly to make camp and edc knives. any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

I send all mine to Peter's in Pennsylvania. It's a great deal if you're doing large batches but not if you're just doing a couple knives at a time.

You can send them out or do it yourself. I'm assuming y'all have a kiln if you're in tool making? I think a2 is air cooling? Anyway, keep practicing and the grinds will even themselves out. Also, get a file guide and that will keep your plunges even from side to side. Welcome to shoptalk and keep at it. Post some pics of your designs/progress/finished work for some constructive criticism. There is all kinds of good info from lots of great makers here so take advantage of it and it can shorten your learning curve!
