thank you so much

There's a "sticky" at the top of this forum that says something to the effect of "newbies, good info here". That's a great place to start. Also, read the rest of the stickies at the top for some higher level, but very good information.

As for books, there are a number of good texts that can help give you the idea. The $50 Knife Shop is a great place to start. Other than that, head to your local Hastings or Barnes and Noble and look in the crafts section. There should be books on blacksmithing and maybe even knife making in the same area as the quilting books and gun/coin collecting books.

You can do a limited search on this site using google by typing in [site:bladeforums.com] without the brackets before or after your query.

Welcome to the craft. Read posts here as much as you can, and you will learn a good bit. If you have specific questions, just ask.

thank you so much:D

I would say read all you can. If you can find a maker who lives close, ask to spend a day with him. Buy him lunch or something. You can learn so much in such a short time.

if you can't find a knifesmith to shadow, youtube has some ok video's you can watch to get an idea of what you're getting into. however there are some dumbasses on there so just take ideas with a grain of salt. always remember your ppe and just jump into it the worst you can do is mess up, start over or modify your blade to match your screwup. hope you enjoy your new craft as much as the rest of us do.
