First a little background on myself. I'm a machinist, and I also run a small machine shop at home for extra income so I'm not new to working with metals/plastics.I have a fair bit of equipment at home but no belt grinder.

I'm getting ready to start making my first knife. Will be deciding on materials and ordering this week. One thing I can't quite decide on is to buy the Craftsman 2x42 or the Grizzly 1x42.

I know, not high end machines, but I want to see if this is something I'll want to do enough to make a bigger investment. If things all work out, I plan on building one of the NWG machines down the line.

I am leaning toward the 1x42 because it seems like it'd be more usable all-around, as well as to support a larger machine later on. Correct me if this line of thinking is off-track.

Thanks in advance for any help,

The 2X42 from sears is actually the better of the two.Lots of knives made on tht little grinder, and the availibility and life of the belts plus the 2" width makes it come out on top IMHO.

Hmmm..maybe the Craftsman is the way to go.
