Thanks for Looking , please be brutally honest.

You want brutal. I'll give ya brutal. To me that looks great. I'm new too so you might now want to but to much credit in what I say but I think that looks great. Keep up the good work. :)

SKnowles,

I'm not a maker or anything, but those are very nice. Are you sure these are your first. I really like the little one!!!

Jeff

well to be brutally honest, you suck. for one reason alone. those two knives look a heckuva lot better than anything i'v made yet lol. good job man, and welcome to bladeforums. if you stick around you'll end up addicted like the rest of us, and well-informed on top of that! Nice work
Alex

I really like the second one. The first looks a little awkward to me, but then again, I've never tried it. Great job, keep up the good work!

To be brutaly honest, I don't how I would feel about the designs till I had them in my hand, I would prefere a little more rounding of the first one for example. Workmanship looks to be excellent, and light years beyond my first, or 21st! You sure those are your first?

Your knives are way better than my first and even some of my recent.

However the top one just does not quite grab me as much as it should.
The workman ship is great. Design is always personal taste and bassed on what you are going to use it for.

If you want to send me an email with blade forum knife as the title I will photo shop a couple of minor changes to your blade just to show you how a couple of mm or an axis angle change can effect the look.

Remember I will not be right and you will not be wrong just a couple of variation to compare.

They are fine knives. I was only thinking of the top knife. I have it already downloaded but will not work on it uless I hear from you if I don't here in a week I will delete it.

Keep up the good work. You have a big future.

I forgot my email.
I have made the changes just for fun for your eyes only. I hope you don't think I am rude. It is only my opinion and only a couple of quick versions I would need to make a few more versions before I would be 100% happy but as a learning tool I don't think it will hurt to see. How minor changes make a difference.

THere is nothing wrong with the knife as it is but you asked for honest opinions.

Thank ALOT for all of your positive feedback! I can asure you they are definately my first. The first one I designed with cutting out those Deer @#$holes and inards out hence the pointy shape. got some 01 I want to try next. Thanks again, Shawn

I just finshed my first and used O1. Try it and let us know what you think. Other than the warping during quench, it turned out good. The warping was no fault of the steel, I overheated it and had it a little too thin before hardening.

WOW!!! THESE LOOK GREAT, I LIKE THE RED SPACER MATERIAL. I HAVE YET TO MAKE MY FIRST KNIFE BUT IF THOSE WERE MINE I WOULD BE VERY HAPPY. WITH ANYTHING THERE IS A LEARNING CURVE,IN A YEAR OR TWO I CAN ONLY IMAGINE WHERE YOU WILL BE!!! HOW DID YOU SCRIBE YOURE PROFILE. IF YOU WOULD PLEASE EMAIL ME AT ICEMANFROST1@AOL.COM

You sure have some fine knives there, to be proud of for sure! One thing I would like to point out is,the bottom front of your handles. I've learned from experance not to bring any handle material to a narrow sharp point as this creates a weak area prone to breaking off. A small radias on these areas would prevent that from happining and not take anything away from the looks of the knife..........keep up the fine work

Those handles are looking fantastic. Great for first knives man. I have two things that I can see that kinda dont sit well with me. This is just my personal tastes, and it is in no way degrading your knives.

1. The blade shape on the first knife looks awkward to me. The handle is phenomenal, but the blade seems off to me in some way.

2. The second knife is great, but from what I can see of the picture, the grind line seems a bit short.

They're great knives man. You asked for brutal honesty, and the only brutal honesty I can give you is positive. My critiques are just based on my tastes.

I messed around with your pics and came up with some ideas. Hope you dont mind.

Shawn I have sent the pics if you have any trouble openeing them let me know and I will recend in a different format. Now knowing your intended use for them it is easier to picture the axis angles.

If you are making knives for a particular job you are doing yourself, you will know what feels right and works best so anything I say is just an opinion based on the lines and look of the knife not how well it will perform. Ultimatly a knife made and modified by a user of knives for a sepcific job is more likely to do the job well. My brother is a slaughterman and he has a set of knives all for particular parts of the beast. He goes hard all day and knows what he likes and what makes his hands puff up working too hard.

Again nice.

Mr. Knowles,

I really like your first two knives. Don't be discouraged if you get any negative feedback about the designs. Knife people tend to follow trends. You make the knives that please YOUR tastes, and people will begin to like them too. Just keep making knives to suit you and soon your designs will become refined on their own accord. Meanwhile it looks like you have got it down. I would not be afraid to use eiother of those blades!

For a first try, I'd rate these two knives at a 7 out of a possible 10.

GOOD JOB, SIR!

Looks like you are off to a great start. I like your designs and the green canvas micarta is a great choice. Its one of my faves for handle materials and looks great on a knife.

Great job..
