New to Knives - Blade Steel Recommendations?

depends what your budget is. like others have mentioned 8cr13mov and AUS 8 are good steels that are on most high value knives. if you are looking for a well built, lightweight folder a good option is a spyderco byrd cara cara 2 coming in at about 25 bucks, it also has 8cr13mov steel and spyderco has great quality in their knives.

Honestly, look for something in vg10. It's stainless, Easy to sharpen, holds an edge long enough for most daily use, can get scary sharp when you get some sharpening experience, and it's not That expensive.
Spyderco would be your most cost effective bet, watch the exchange.
Find an endura 4, delica or dragonfly in size descending order.

There are so many considerations that will ultimately take precedence over steel type-
knife size, lock type, scales type, price range.

The good news is that if you buy from a reputable company, you will probably get a good steel appropriate to the price range.
