Hey guys, I am about to take a stab at knife making at the start of next year and am trying to get tool/shop in order first. My grandfather was a knife maker and I inherited a Bader b2 from him. It seems to work and track well, for the little that I have used it. I have 3 different wheels for it as well. I would really like to get a platen attachment for it and have not had much finding a solution online. I was going to call Bader soon to see if they had a suggestion, but I thought I would try here first. Is there somewhere I can purchase a platen with a tooling arm that has a circular end for the Bader 2.

I also thought about getting this craftsman 1/3 2x42 for now, if I couldn't find a platen solution for the B2. Any thoughts on this grinder?

Thanks for you help.

The Bader will run circles around that craftsman.Keep lookin, you will find a solution. In my opinion you do not need a 2x42.

I would honestly put money twords the Bader, not twords a much lesser quality tool. I don't know much about Baders but what I do know is they are good grinders and I'm almost positive they make a platen like the one you described. Do a thorough search on their website, if they don't make it someone else does or you could make one yourself, and I'm sure some of the veterans on the forum will chime in soon with more help. Good luck and welcome to knife making!

I think the Esteem platen will fit the Bader, not sure, but Brett Mathews is a member here, and hopefully he will chime in...

Thanks for all the input. The problem with the Bader 3 attachments is that the arm doesn't fit the bader 2. But I just spoke with Bader and they told me that they make an adapter arm for the B2 that will allow the use of any B3 attachment, which is good news. Thanks again for your help, I guess I should have called first :)
