New To Knives Need Help on Custom Passion Project for Father

any chance we can clone this thread to that section as well ?
I think only a mod can do that,, just copy and paste your original post over there... I have a feeling though that custom jobs are a lot of money,, and a lot of time..could be wrong though.

With that price range you have a LOT of options.

You may want to consider having the blades engraved from the dealer you get them from... It will definitely make them more sentimental.

I think you've gotten some very nice options but one thing I don't know if you've considered is the type of knife your father may want to actually use and carry, or put up cause "it's too nice" to use. When my father was still alive, he was in his 70's, and speaking for myself only, he'd of never carried a Sebenza. He carried traditional slippies his entire life and the larger, pocket clipped knives baffled him. He could never envision needing something like a Sebenza. Whenever he saw one of mine he'd just shake his head. Lol.

So that's all I wanted to mention if you were wanting something for him to carry, or as a keepsake, is maybe try and sound him out to see what he would favor.

Or you may have already.... :), very nice gesture though on your part and I'm sure he will be pleased.

Yeah i think a wayfayer style knife may just be to big and new for my dad. I really like the rainmaker style knife, but I think its way to big for him .

Whenever I show my dad a new knife, his first question is always "Where's the screwdriver?", so I'm probably just trying to live vicariously thru you, haha.

I got him a Schatt and Morgan scout knife for his birthday last year but had to fib about whether or not it was "too nice to use". If he knew what it cost, it would have been stuck in his drawer, never to see the light of day. The Olamic offerings would not appeal to my father at all, nor the Sebenza for that matter.

Joe58 brings up some great points to consider.

Very good points! The only reason I immediately thought of a Sebenza though, was that the OP mentioned one hand opening. " I want something that can be opened and closed with 1 hand and easily."
200-400 price range, timeless, quality.
If not for the one hand opening request I would definitely suggest a great lockback
