new to knives need help

Buck 110, Buck Vantage Pro, or any of the CRKT M16/M21 lineup. If price is not a factor, and by that I mean you would like to get the most for the least, check out the CRKT Thunderbolt. One of my first knives, and still solid as a rock. Easy to sharpen, too.

The first decent knife I got was a Kershaw Skyline. It would be my first recommendation for anyone just getting into knives. I also think the Manix 2 in translucent blue is a fine choice. The blue is getting harder to find and a bit more expensive. They should be having a black version coming out soon. The Benchmade Griptilian is also great. Although a bit thick, I do not notice it much in my pocket. Ontario RAT 1 is good and $30. SOG Aegis is good, but I find sometimes when I cut plastic it can get caught in the gap between the handle and blade. Benchmade Torrent is also good, but it runs about $110. Super fun to play with. But the Skyline is still the first knife I hand to people that are just getting into knives.

If you can hold off for a while longer, I'd recommend the 2013 CS Code 4 Spear Point / Kershaw Cryo II / Kershaw Scrambler (RJ Martin knife) / Kershaw Dimension (Ti for under $100... unreal!) / I just picked up the Kershaw Piston and I love it!
