NEW -to me- BOWIES

well my little tiny female hands would probably fit just great, so should you ever need to release the Bura... LOL just kidding. Good info though, Thanks. I had JW make a couple extra Chakmas/Kardas for a couple of my blades that didn't have them. I really like using the chakma for keeping the edges up to snuff. I don't have them in hand yet, but from the pictures and other knowledge of his work, if you need some made for blades you have that didn't come with one I highly recommend chatting with him about it.

That's a great idea actually Shavru,, I was thinking over the weekend how it would be nice to have one general karda and chakma, maybe a few other Ganjuwai style accessory items made for a little carry all kit I could just pack with my blades.
I like the utilitarian factor of those items but I always find myself checking my CAK to make sure they haven't fallen out. I have no dialogue with JW yet but he has been recommended to me already by a few other vets. I think I will be exploring his work along with Pugs...
I gotta do this right!!~ ha! cheers

Some sweet blades there for sure, some grail's. The bura is stunning. Grats on some fine pieces.

Thanks Pugs.. the Bura is definitely the intensity of my collection so far but I gotta say that I cannot put that Chitlangi Bowie down.. what a fun blade.
I got my first KLVUK in the mail yesterday, without a sheath so I am planning on boxing that and my IBBB up to send your way by the end of the month. I may try to get another KLVUK and send the set.

I have been fortunate enough to make friends with another forum member who is a great collector and who gave me the -awesome- opportunity to acquire a couple of just great pieces for my growing H.I. collection.

That's a lot of greatness right there. Congratulations on your high voltage "jumpstarted" collection.

Thanks snow wolf,, they do bring a new level of elegance to the table :)
Need to find a giant chitlangi to big brother up with this one.

Nice grail pieces.. I am quickly becoming infatuated with these HI swords, the giant chitlangi is just a beast and I have been meticulously studying the Everast Katanas and Indonesian swords.

Surf actions been way to slow lately over here! Seems to be a lot of action on your side this season. Im freekin jealous:D You may have a good season this year! Conditions like that i just dream of. All my surfboards burned with my house a few years ago but luckily I was windsurfing when the fire broke out so I still have my windsurfers, sails etc.. Im all ears right now waiting for the next storm but they seem to be missing us lately. Enjoy the surf while its there man:thumbup:
Love that horn mini Dethlangi! I gotta find me one of those!

Lies man .......all Lies, I only have three maybe four, don't for one second listen to these scoundrels :D. Those two are pretty nice man and feel great in the hand, now only if I had a Tibetan sword I would be set, ohh wait that is more then four, never mind

Yeah I think it was 4 yesterday, probably 5 today.

Does anyone know (Karda?) if the end of the tang on the handle was actually made to be harder then the blade for hammering??
Looks like it because of the flatness...

That is an excellent collection you have there, and if I were to guess that is a pretty dang early AKB made by Bura. I came aboard not too long after the AKB started to become a more regular item. My second HI purchase was a 15" AK made by Bura and I don't believe it has such gorgeous wasp-waist sweeping lines. I haven't seen it in years. I gave it to my dad because he didn't have a good heavy duty knife in his camper. Maybe one day I'll get it back;)

As far as hammering with the butt? Man, I dunno. Kamis did weird things from time to time. Sometimes they listened. Sometimes they didn't. Do a search for the Stubby Bowie some time. A customer custom ordered an AKB with an extra long blade. The kamis reversed it. It came with a short little stumpy blade and a long two handed grip. Pretty cool if totally wrong:D

About the only way to test it would be to use it, and I doubt you wanna do that with such a gorgeous collector's piece. Hypothetically, you could try to cut into it with a file to see if it's harder. However, I have hammered with my various AKBs for years. Nothing metallic like nails, but certainly used it to thump stuff. I've never done anything more than scratch the metal. I would say that for most field use (tent pegs and the like) or emergency use (smashing out a car window), pretty much any AKB will hold up.

You may be able to rub a bit of lemon juice on the back spine side of the tang to reveal a temper line. It could then easily be polished out again.
