New ( to me ) HDFK, my first CPK

Thanks to CataD I received the HDFK in the mail this morning, which amazed me because it’s only Monday and he mailed it on Saturday!
I want to say thanks to CataD for getting it to me so quickly and for such a smooth transaction, you’re a credit to the forum.

Now to the good stuff, the HDFK.
Absolutely stellar knife, I really don’t know how else to say it. The grip fits my hands like the Machinist made it for me at special request. The fit and finish is flawless. I’m kind of a knife snob in so much as after all these years and spending stupid amounts of money on knives, I like them to be symmetrically ground- even, and clean. The HDFK checks every box, for the knife user, knife collector, and knife snob in me.

I really like the stonewash that they used on this at CPK. After having a few coated and satin Busse knives I’ll enjoy using this one more- no offense hogs. The stonewash reminds me of the stonewash on the CRK Nyala that I’ve used for years for deer hunting and woods work, just bulletproof for normal tasks. I don’t mind a knife looking like I use it but having one that stays nice with use is a plus in my book.

I don’t know if CataD used this one a bit or not but it was just less than scary sharp, a quick strop on the ceramic crock stick and
OH IS THIS THING SCAAAARY now !

I’ve never had a big blade that can take an edge like this! If it’s even half as durable as you all say, or Nathan’s vids prove, I’ll never sell this knife. With minimal work the HDFK became legitimately shaving sharp and chopped aged cedar without even bothering that edge.
I’d say that I see more D3V blades in my future but unless I “get to the Choppa” I won’t have any need unless I somehow ruin this seemingly indestructible knife.
I’ve made due with smaller blades in the woods for 30+ years of hunting, camping, hiking, 4 wheeling, etc. the 3-4 inch knives will still come on the trip but they’ve been officially replaced by the HDFK.

I guess I have one question since this is my first experience with 3V, how close to stainless is it?
I live in Michigan and we get the full force of all 4 seasons, my stainless blades don’t spot and I haven’t really needed to oil my carbon blades unless I’m storing them- if that helps at all.

I don’t want to leave out Eric at Mashed Cat who made yet another perfect sheath. His work is impeccable, but you all probably know that already.

Well, I’ll quit ranting and raving about the knife now- if you actually read all of this, thanks
Big congrats on an outstanding purchase OP!!! Enjoy :) It’ll serve you well for a long time.
Not only did you get one of the best knives on the market (at a sweet price), but you scored it from one of the coolest members to ever populate these forums. Cata kicks ass!
Now, get to the choppa!

That’s a great pic!
I guess I have to start trying to decide which of those 10 inch choppers I need- first

Thanks! The MC is a VERY capable & robust chopper/camp knife. The HDMC should hit a little harder, so to speak, IMO. Which CPK chopper to get..These are the type of decisions that keep me awake at night lol. Either way, please keep us posted on how you’re enjoying your awesome HDFK as you get to use it more. Congrats again!

Congrats! Pretty new to CPK myself, but dove right in...got an MC about a month ago, a HDFK a week after that, and should have a BC on the way as we speak (I say "should" cuz I thought I had one on the way before and didn't happen). Gonna have to start selling some of my other knives...

That’s quite a collection that you’re putting together. I’m drooling over the choppers now, hopefully I’ll get one soon.

I’m selling off loads of stuff that I never used or used very little. Consolidating down to a few special safe queens and users only.
