Only this afternoon, this toolmaker’s hand vice was an aged brown beat up afterthought used tool store find. It shuttled away to Hopeless Valley and came back a cleaned, polished, and PAINTED (Ford Blue engine enamel) eye-popper!. This one is even complete with the internal spring. Hubba Hubba!

Great Score Daizee! I have one somewhere in the shop. Haven't seen it in a couple years...but if you saw my shop you understand. It sure looks nice all gussied up like that. It will provide many years of service.

Any before pictures? It looks sleek, powerful, and new :)

No, and I'm kicking myself!
She's done a lot of restorations like this, and I knew what to expect... The 'made in usa' stamp wasn't even visible when she took it.
The next one will have evidence. :-)

Ok, so she was delighted that you guys liked this, so here are a few more. (the blue hand vice is the first that's MINE! :))
She really enjoys restoring old tools, with a heavy emphasis on clampy things. This sample is just what I can lay my hands on quickly - she has a whole set of these things that she uses in her welding work, so this isn't just a paint&polish endeavor.

I keep telling her she should sell a few here and there to augment the tool fund.
Do you guys think there's a market?

Some notes on the below:
There are some neat details that are more obvious in person, like the polished wing nut on the yellow clamp.
The green vice was completely re-done inside and out with all the moving parts polished. The jaws were re-mated and buffed to a mirror. The foot on the clamp is even green.
The black hand vice is the first one that made me want one of my own. It's missing the internal spring, but now that she has a template in the blue one she's going to fab a new spring for the black one (which has buffed jaws instead of a matte finish like the blue one).

I have to say, I REALLY, REALLY like that green vise with the extra clampy thing on the bottom.

I wonder if I can mod a normal vise to do that. Maybe have an attachment that I bolt on the bottom with a clampy thing.

Looks good. Does she use electrolysis? I do it myself, easy enough to do and just like magic.

not that I know of, but I bet she would if some space were set aside for it. What's your setup?
