New to rat

I find that I carry the Izula more than anything else, but my only other rat is the rc 5, which I bought for hiking/backpacking. So, if you are looking for an EDC I would go for the Izula, I think I picked it up for around $50 shipped. Not sure what I am getting next, maybe the 3 or hest.

my buddy also had the hest for some review, that i would think would be a great knife to own.

yeah i dont think you can go wrong with the izula. i got one and it is a great little fixed blade. and when the izula folder comes out i will be getting one of those too.

I'd pick an Izula or RC3 as your first.

Izula = best EDC
RC3 = most useful all around for day-to-day chores.

Then go for the gusto and get a Junglas when it comes out after the SHOT show (don't ask for a firm date or price on this one, no one knows yet).

New to RAT. I know I'm going to pick up an Izula for EDC type tasks. I'm looking for something for real heavy duty camping use. Chopping and all for shelter building. Suggestions?

Bluedevil45- I would got with the RC5 for what you mentioned. That is about as heavy duty as it gets.

what kind of warranty do they offer?

i copied this from RAT's website. http://www.ratcutlery.com/warranty.htm

No Questions Asked Warranty. If you screw it up, break it, or cut it in two with a cutting torch, send it back and we'll replace it. Warranty is transferable. In other words, we warranty the knife no matter how many times it's been traded, sold or given away. We don't ask for a sales receipt, date of purchase or where you bought the knife - No fine print and no hassles.

Great knives

I agree with mean just get one of each. I have an izula, HEST, rc4 and rc3 and the next one will be rc6 then the izula folder when its released.

Hello and Welcome great people here and the RC product Top Notch A Izula first and then jump to the RC-4,and a big one Get a Rat Pack # Welcome

Izula or an RC3 first would be my choice too but id skip the RC4 and get the RC6. The RC4 and the RC6 are the same thickness just the RC6 is longer making it easier to baton thicker, wider logs with. If you know you are going to be using your knife to split wood with at some stage, why would you (and i mean "you" in general) get the RC4? Wouldnt it be better to get the izula or 3 and the 6 and skip the 4 entirely? Just curious as to why so many people recommend the 4. Not trying to bash the 4 or anyone on the forums, was just wondering what all the fuss about the 4 was when you could just get the 6 and an izula

Welcome rasjr :)

you can't go wrong with an izula, even the girlfriends love 'em :D (if you take the pink one)
And from there, it's a slippery slope into the rat's nest... you'll be hooked

But, even with the warranty with what it is, most folks don't go out of the way to try and break thier knife.

What will your knife be used for? I started with a RC-4 for camping. Next was the Izula. Then the RC-5 and RC-6 followed by the Rat Pack RC-3. If you like the size and feel of your friends RP knife, why not start with a RC-3 yourself?

For most purposes, you best get the Izula. It'll get you started on the RAT's, and it's a great user.
Like other people said, it depends on your use a little. Camping and stuff like that, you would be best suited with an RC3 or 4.

In case of doubt....get an Izula!

i dont here much talk on here about the hest, is the knife too new for people to figure out if it is a good knife or not, or what? to me it looks like you can do just about anything with that knife.

The H.E.S.T. is a very versatile knife...It has a lot of well conceived features in it's design...It will probably do everything the RC 3 can and then some.....The price makes this RC model a huge value.

For more input on the HEST see the "RC Opinion HEST is BEST" and the HEST Pass Around Review threads.

If I could only have one Rat Cutlery knife...it would be a HEST.
