Need help.

I am looking for my first slippie
I want a stockman, in yellow delrin in carbon not SS.
I want spend about $30.

Could you help me in how Moore Maker compares to Case and Bulldog.
Or if there is an other manufacture I should start with.

Thanks

I too have found my new calling in slip-joints. I have a couple of Cases I really like, new and old. Start there maybe, especially if you can go look at them somewhere near you. It's worth the drive!

kodiak,
I am nowhere near a store that carries slip joints.
I have to buy online without handling the knife to see the difference in quality.

So I need to hear from you guys!

Cant go wrong with a Case. If you are buying online, call the store and ask if they will look over the knive to make sure you get one with good fit and finish (not like there is a lot of bad ones out there).

Best of luck,
John

I only have one Moore Maker and it is fine. Case is not a bad selection either.
Go with what you can afford and then move on up to some custom slippies.

Several makers on the forum and from what I hear and from what I have held in my hands, they are all excellent.

I agree with others,Case is a good bet, great knives for the price and quality control is pretty good. And most everyone likes there CV steel.

Case is the place!.

May I ask: Why you are against stockman knives with Tru-Sharp steel?

Against Tru-Sharp Steel??
I am not against it.
What is it?
440A?
Why do you think I should get it more than carbon?

I like carbon steel.
I find it easier to sharpen.
And keep sharp.
I like the patina.
The slipjoint is an traditional design, so it seem to me to use a more traditional steel.

It is Case XX's - Surgical Steel - a special high-carbon stainless cutlery steel.

These blades hold and take an edge to be sure..

That is exactly what has happened to me! I have like knives for a long time, but mostly carried SAKs and locking folders for most of my life. A few years ago I got into slippies and I have gradually moved into the custom realm. Those dang Case/Bose collaborations are what put me over the edge. After a few of those, it is hard to get anything other than a custom!

My exp with CASE has been totally positive. 9 out of 9 knives all excellent, few makers can come near that figure AND they were bought on-line or gifts.

You will find it difficult to get a Moore Maker new for 30 dollars I suspect..but an interesting knife. Try Böker if you like carbon, I recently bought a copperhead for 29 dollars and like it enormously.

Hate to sound like a broken record but I've pretty well always been pleased with case. Another positive with case is if you have to buy online and you have a problem with the knife you get you can always contact case and they will take care of you. As far as steel i lean toward the cv steel just out of habit, although in the last year i've picked up a couple of the SS and have had NO complaints with them. good luck and get plenty of money ready cause you can't buy just one. ahgar
