New to Slippies

Guys,
Thanks for all your advice.

I did the classic BladesForum solution!
I ordered both...

A Queen's large Stockman with Honey Amber Stag Bone in D2.
And
A Case medium stockman with yellow delrin in CV.

Now all I have to do is to wait for them to come.

Excellent solution! Never buy one, when two (or three, or...) will do! I have a drawer full of knives, and just keep on buying more. Please keep us posted on how they turn out.

I've just bought a Case medium stockman in CV myself, it came today and I must say I love it. I hope you are as happy with yours.
Give us your take on the two knives when they arrive.
Which do you like best Case or Queen. Pro's/Con's etc.

Go Queen!

Honestly, both are awesome knives. But that D2....mmm, mmm, mmm!

Enjoy.

Brett

On the Queen, I asked the store to look for a knife with the best grind, so I hopefully will not need to rebevel..

This has been a very enjoyable thread to follow. Lot's of drama. Started out as advice on a $30.00 knife purchase.

Reminded me of a high school friend, who's dad was notorious. Once he returned from a trip to the liquor store. With his hands behind his back, he claimed, "I couldn't decide whether to get Old Crow, or Old Charter..."

He swung both hands from behind his back and set both bottles down emphatically on the kitchen table, and claimed, "So I got them both!"

Hope you enjoy both knives. I'm sure you will. Post that review on the sharpening of them.

The Case is $30. ;)
I would have purchased the Queen at a later date, so I am saving on the shipping cost.

They will take a couple of weeks to get to me.
So I will post then, and the sharpening I will do in the Tinkering forum

You are going to love them both ,but the Honey amber Queen is really going to be the knife of choice,I just know it....You may want to purchase an Great eastern pocket knife also then you will have all three made in PA...

Mike,
Don't you start on what I need to buy next.
LOL!!!
I will Google "Great Eastern pocket knife"...

I changed my order for the knives.

I ordered:
Queens #26 JBC Jigged Black Cherry (Delrin) in D2 $40
MooreMaker 3300 yellow delrin in carbon steel $33
Case yellow delrin in CV $31

They are all medium stockmans.

The Queen #26 is a far superior knife.
The exact finish, the halfway opening, the blades.
All that I hoped for in a quality knife.
The bevel was fine.
A couple of passes on a DMT extra fine and the blades are sharp.
(For the quality of the knife, I would have been prepared to work on the blades to rebevel them).
The finish of the delrin is extremely good, and does not look like plastic.
I am extremely pleased with this knife, and the extra couple of dollars on the price is cheap for the increase in quality.

The quality of the Case and MooreMaker are similar.
Both sharpen easily and well.
But I like the MooreMaker better.

On the MooreMaker
The opening is easier, the blades sit deeper in the handle and have a cutout for the clip and the spey.
The nail clip is bigger and easier to grasp.
The blades close smoothly
The knife feels thinner, and the line of the blades to the handle flows better.
In general the knife looks and feels better.

On the Case
The opening is stiff, almost nail breaker, and it snaps closed.
The nail clips are smaller, which makes it even harder.
It is also stiff to close.
The sheepsfoot blade when folded in, sticks out, which makes the knife look bigger.
The knife feels bigger.

A great introduction into slippies!!!
But the Queen #26 JBC is that much better.

Neeman,
I just got a Case 3318 CV a few weeks ago and if you think the spey blade rides too high you can file down the kick a little. I did this and in 5 minutes the my stockamn was perfect.
One thing I did notice was the grind on the two smaller blades was not even and not too sharp.
A little time on the Sharpmaker made it perfect. All in all a nice knife.

Bill,

Will try that.

If the two smaller blades are stiff, just oil them and then work them?
