New to Spyderco

Thank you all for your advice, experience, and input.
I definitely see the wisdom in working my way up to more exotic steels. I have a Sharpmaker on the way already and knives in a good range of steels to learn with (including D2 and Elmax).
I've decided on a VG-10 Delica. I usually carry two folders on me (3.5+" and sub 3) and the Delica would blow any other smaller folder I have out of the water. And if the worst were to happen and the knife not work out for me, I know a couple people I could give it to as a gift and maybe create a new Spyderco fan :)
It might be a bit before I can pick one up but I will definitely follow up here once I have it and have had some time to use it.

Get a Delica and treat it like you found it in a dumpster
I guarantee it will always turn up to work the next day with a smile on its face .

So I actually got to handle a Delica, Endura, Dragonfly, and Military (no PMs were in stock). The only one that really worked with my fingers was the Military. Between the smaller hole and the stiffness/friction on the lockbacks it just didn't work with my fingers/nails. But the Military felt great. So I got lucky on timing on BladeHQ and ordered a PM2 S110V (I've gotten my sharpmaker and have been practicing with my knife in D2 and got it down). Thanks again everyone for your advice, I'll post pics when I get it and have used it. :)

^ Excellent choice!!! PM2 is great choice for a first Spyderco knife! I think you're going to love it.

Keep in mind that the lock-back models usually require a bit of break-in time to truly get smooth. They do get easier to open over time, so don't count them out yet. If you really start liking the look of the Delica or Endura, try to pick up a worn in one on the Exchange just to see if it will work for you. If not, you likely wont lose much selling it or trading it away. Anyway, cant go wrong with the PM2. Congrats on finding a great knife. Let us know how it works out for you

welcome to the forum,so you settled om the PM2/S110V! its a vary poplar knife hear and think you will enjoy using it along with your sharpmaker,if your anything like me!your in for the spyderco ride, wish you grate luck with collecting them.

PM2 is a beautiful and well made thing. IMO the Military is all around better though. Personally I prefer the Endura to either. It is everything a knife needs to be and nothing it doesn't. I have and like the Delica but it is more like a one handed single blade locking SAK than the others. My Endura is a good bit beefier in overall build but easily as "slicey" as I'll ever need. The Millie and Para 2 aren't actually all that similar in hand. I hope you LOVE your Para2 though!!

Well it arrived. But it has some issues. It came with a nick on the blade and the blade is significantly off center. It came kinda stiff and while it's loosened up, I believe the blade is rubbing due to being off center as it gets stiffer closer to closing. I love the knife otherwise and have contacted Spyderco about warranty but being the weekend won't hear back till tomorrow. As I've never owned a Spyderco I don't know if any of that is covered. Hopefully the limited availability of the knife won't affect this.

If you ordered from Blade HQ?? You can send it back and get another one. Just have to do with in 20 days, and pay 5% restock fee. Go to their website and click Customer Service.

I did. But I figured it might be easier to go through Spyderco considering how fast the S110v sells out everywhere.

Raven 2 gets my nod....... I lent mine to my Mom who lost it................ but paid me to order another one which I just did. A lot better knife than you'll get locally for the money; trust me I put my first one thru everything I could for 3 months and it held up perfectly. I wouldn't be re-ordering one tonight if I didn't like it myself. :)

Zima,

Try to get a used Stretch VG10, it pops up on the exchange occasionally. It's backlock but smoothest amongst the family (IME) and the hole is larger, and the fit & finish is better too than the FRN siblings (again, IME).

Well after talking to Spyderco Customer Service, I've started tweaking the pivot ever so slightly and it seems to be fixing the stiffening. The blade is still off center but it may not actually be affecting the action. Gonna keep fiddling and if not I'm just gonna send it for warranty as BHQ can only refund me.

Ok, so the day after BladeHQ got more in and more than squared me away. They upgraded the shipping from USPS First Class to Priority 2 Day (didn't matter in the end but I appreciate the upgrade all the same) when they sent it back and even let me order a couple things to tack on without incurring a new shipping charge.
I love the knife. I'm still learning but it has become my favorite knife to whittle with. My ZT 560BW may always be my (attainable) grail but this thing gets more pocket time since it's so much slimmer and much more EDC friendly blade. I'm definitely hooked on Spyderco and look forward to adding a few more Spydies to my collection. :)

The S110v was my first PM2, love it. Now if the BHQ exclusive would hurry up to keep it company...
