Hello all. My name is Michael and I am brand new to the world of Becker’s. Got a BK16 from my MIL for Christmas and I’m loving it so far. I do have a couple of questions regarding the optional scales that are available for this little guy. Was wondering if they all fit about the same in regards to a sheath? Of course I am wanting to upgrade the sheath and wasn’t sure if some of the popular kydex brands fit all the different scale options. Also if anyone knows what if any leather sheaths would fit this BK16 as well? I know TKC has several “universal” types of sheaths but was not sure which if any would fit the Bk16. Thanks all.

Leather sheaths will fit any of the scales that you get for it due to it being flexible, but kydex sheaths will have more issues with custom scales: the TKC G10 scales are thinner than the stock grivory, and the Ka-Bar micarta scales are a tad thicker, with most custom wood scales falling somewhere inbetween. I know when I got a custom kydex sheath for a Becker I had to specify what scales I had so it fit properly.

If you don’t mind my asking. What scales and sheath do you have for yours?

I don't have the knife in question any more, and it wasn't actually a BK16, it was a BK9 with custom wood scales from Tommythewho and a 710 kydex sheath.

I do have a BK15 with the Ka-Bar micarta scales, though, and they are a bit thicker than the stock grivory.

Awesome. Thanks for the pics. Yeah I had seen on 710’s website that you can select the different scales. I had never heard of Tommythewho scales till I saw that. Still need to look up those scales. Thanks again for the info

Thank you Sir. I appreciate it. Yes I am very lucky with my MIL. I cannot believe I had never gotten myself a Becker before now. Already eyeballing one of those BK9’s.

Get a BK 9 for your multi-tool big blade then a BK 2 to do all the smaller tough hard to do jobs you don't want to put your BK 16 through. Trust me, I found the 5" BK 2 is very handy for doing hard use jobs were my 6" inchers can do it but a bit harder and my other finer/smaller knives I wouldn't risk using to do the job on. The BK 2, 9 and 16 will serve about all jobs and tasks you will commonly have to do. My advice is get 2 of each if your a frequent doing stuff out doors person. If not just one of each will do. There are other knives out there from other great companies, which I also use heavily, but the BK 9 and/or BK 2 comes along for their multi-tool use capability. I admit it usually depends what I remembered to pack or left in the car/pack/boat. But those two knives are in my outdoor front line up I know I can trust my life on if need be.
