New to the BK&T Forum.

I’m a little late to the party...
Welcome Henry!!
Nice to have you here. There’s a lot of really cool folks around here with a lot of unique knowledge and insight.

Enjoy your stay!

Yeah, not Jonny, but a lot of people. :D

Here is a shot of my BK-62 with Dogwood Dan's Kephart that I purchased at last year's Blade Show. It looks smaller than the Becker, but it is almost exactly the same size. I think you picked a good one for your first Becker. I like the BK-14 quite a lot too. The BK-62 and BK-15 are my two favorite Beckers. I still don't have a "9", but I have a "7".

Oooh, 22, some side-by-side pix? I handled several of Dan's kepharts at BLADE. Nice stuff. Is yours CPM154?

You daizee daizee mean like this? Yes, it is CPM-154. As you probably know, I got pretty interested in the Kephart pattern and the BK-62 was the first that I really liked. I have the regular Condor Kephart (that was my first kephart) but never really liked it. The BK-62 remains a standard that I compare others to. I carry the Compact Kephart (Condor) as an edc just about all the time. I like it far far more than their original kephart.

When I first got my Condor Kephart, I didn’t really like it. It took several years of revisiting it from time to time, working on the edge and reading about the man himself that I really began to appreciate the pattern.

When the BK62 appeared, I knew enough about the pattern to know this was a special knife. Having bought the BK62, I began to learn more about Ethan and his approach to designing knives, which I began to appreciate in its own right. Before the BK62, I had been aware of Becker knives, but had never come close to buying one. Without the BK62, it would certainly have taken me a lot longer to buy any other Becker.

As I related back when Ethan first acquired the original Kephart, I figured that a Becker version was likely in the future and was hoping for such because I have a lot of confidence that the knife would be done well by Kabar with oversight by Ethan. Both Ethan and Kabar came through with flying colors and created a fantastic general purpose woods knife. Nothing really compares to it except customs/handmade knives if you want a 5 inch. Most were done in the 4-4.5" size. The knife just works and it is sized and priced such that even folks that don't live in the woods would be willing to carry it and use it.

If Kabar hadn't done the knife, I would probably have eventually gotten the full sized Bark River version. I know it would be a cutter.

Prior to the BK-62 being released, I was interested in getting about a 5 inch Kephart. I really didn't know at that time what the original sizes were when Horace was alive. I couldn't find a 5 inch Kephart and would have to go custom. I was not totally convinced that I would like it as my only comparison was my unloved Condor Kephart. I can probably still salvage the Condor if I put in some effort. It would be much better done in 1095 and with a much thinner edge. I have yet to mess with mine as I have others. But the good part is that I wouldn't be particularly worried about messing it up as I would just toss it in the trash if I truly messed it up with my grinding.

The Kabar Becker BK-62 is a awesome knife and one that Ethan, Kabar, and the knife community can be proud of.

ooh, nice, I like the black! thanks!
Yeah, the 62 has taught me much. Few other kepharts were ever appealing to me, but I got a '62 because Ethan said it would teach me things. And so it has.

Hello. I have been on BF for a while, but just started prowling around here, the reason being, I have acquired a couple of Beckers. I have had a BK62 for maybe a year and a half, and bought a BK14 a couple of months ago. I have read a little bit about Ethan and watched a few of his YouTube appearances, and now I am interested in his knives. I expect to buy a couple more over the next year.

In the meantime, I am here to listen and learn, and maybe contribute where I can.

Welcome! I’m very new to the forum and BKandT as well. I’ve had a Kabar for over 10years now that sorry to say doesn’t get used much. It mostly lives in my Jeep for in case of emergencies.

Welcome!

BK-15 is my favorite knife (not just Becker) and it's always on my hip when out in the woods...

BK14 is a close second and is my EDC survival knife. ALWAYS on me, unless I'm underwater or in bed.

A simple convex edge with a worksharp belt sharpener at 20° makes it so much better and then you really just need to strop it to keep it laser-like.

I used to carry it at 12:00 in a cross-draw kydex sheath, but now carry it daily in a pocket sheath (and it also frees up the 12:00 position for another!

In these 2 knives, I get Ethan Becker, Jerry Fisk, Kabar and Esee. Double-dipping with high-carbon steel icons. :D:p:cool::thumbsup:

Thank you out of all the kabars I have bought the BK14 had the dullest edge on it. And I recently got the Worksharp Ken Onion version as well as a worksharp small hand sharpener to keep in the bag or Jeep to resharpen when not home.

My third Becker is on the way. I was vacillating between the 16 and the 9, so I temporized with another 62 so I could put micarta on one while keeping the nicest walnut

The micarta really changes the blade by modernizing it and increasing its durability. KA-BAR really did a great job with them.

My BK16 arrived the other day. First mod was to wrap the cardboard blade protector in Gorilla tape so I can carry it around without all that sheath. I will use it for a while before I strip the blade and replace the grips.

For some reason, my phone still will not upload pics to this site, but you all know what it looks like. The grip makes it feel much smaller than I expected, but still way too much for a front pocket
. I need to get it over to my boy’s house and pit it against my grandson’s Marttiini.
