New to the Boards, Questions on Blades

Just thought I'd Let you all know, I have purchased an F1 Fallkniven with VG10 Stainless Steel with the Kydex sheath, Some of the reasons for the F1 are, The grip, it looks great, I have smaller hands, and ill possibly be wearing gloves while using this knife, also, for my first knife, I didnt want to large of a blade, something smaller and easier to control will at least help me get more comfortable using knives. Convex edge, Ive read alot of reviews and I hear very good things, Ive also watched some videos and looks incredibly durable.
Now, the next knife Im thinking of buying, probably in couple months is either a Esee 3 or maybe a larger blade for chopping, such as a Bk7, Potbelly by KABar I think? or something similar. If anyone has any experince with a knife they use primarily as a chopper I would love to hear what you own and how it works for you.

Excellent choice! I bought the F1 early in my knife enthusiasm days and still go back to it every time I'm outdoors camping or hiking.

I have a BK-7 and it can chop, but my BK-9 is WAY better at chopping. For that matter my ESEE Lite Machete or KA-BAR Kukri Machete or HI Khukuri are all better choppers. My BK-7 is an excellent all round survival knife and I really like it, it can handle most tasks very well including batoning - but chopping, not nearly as good as my BK-9. The BK-9 isn't much dearer than the BK-7, you should consider buying one if you want a good chopper knife and a reasonable price.

I never take a chopper only into the bush, I always take a smaller knife for the finer work. A BK-9 and a Fallkniven F1 would be a decent enough combination to start with. A BK-7 and an F1 would make less sense as they aren't all that different to each other in function. A BK-9 could chop and baton while the F1 could handle the other knife tasks - they would compliment each other pretty well IMO.

For the ESEE I actually meant the Izula not the ESEE3, but I do see your point with the BK7 and BK9 and how similar they are, I have been looking at the Kukris and axes instread of one the Beckers, and I have down to the Gransfors Small Forest Axe, or a KABAR Kukri. Im going to do a little more research on Kukris just to make sure though.

Dont like reviving old posts buts its merely an update. I recieved my Fallkniven F1 the other day and love it so far, granted I havent really used it. I have small hands and the handle is perfect when I wear my gloves. I was only looking at pictures of knives so it really helps to hold it and examine. The sheath seems to be fine, simple belt loop, and holds the knife in fairly well.
Im going to put a strop together with an old leather belt I have (it will work right?), what are some good sandpaper grits to start with?
I have been talking about a chopper alot lately, and since I am digging this handle I think I might go with an Fallkniven A2 and also Kershaw Folding saw.
(Still a couple weeks till my next purchase). Though if I see a nice custom knife on here...who knows! Again, Thanks, these forums and the people on here really helped me out, so much great information on all different kinds of knives.

My advise is to get a cheap chopper first. The A2 is a whole lotta knife but also very expensive. If you like the idea of chopping with a knife get something like an Ontario spec plus sp49. You won't feel bad abusing the hell out of it then.
