Hi, just joined because i got tired of searching and reading reviews etc.

I've been looking for a knife, a full tang around 6 or 7 inches in total.

All the stores i go, i end up dissapointed because i can tell how cheap they are.

Been buying knives without even being aware until recently because of bad experiences.

I always bought folding knives however I always end up leaving them getting dust because i end up feeling insecure with them. Last folding knife i got, i really like but it got very loose and i just cant trust it anymore. I got a bad cut also because i wanted to test how safe is wad the lock until it snaped and closed on my thumb. I know it was very dumb of me.

So i want a good quality manufactured knife and each time i go to amazon and find a good one, I end up being dissapointed because of the reviews which ends up pushing me off.

I really hope i receive the wisdom i need in order to buy a good durable knife i can trust when chopping wood, cutting, surviving hammering it and so on.

Many thanks!

Welcome to the site. How much are you looking to spend?

Thanks Morrow.
Ok i am used to find a knife around 40 but You will have to tell me how much is the less for a good quality trust worthy knife for life if possible.

Full tang knife, around 7" overall length, and for around $40?

The BK14 sounds like it can fit your needs perfectly.

Can you give us some brands you have tried? Also, your intended use? Fixed or folder? There are some very good folding knives for under $40. I will just through some examples out.

Ontario Utilitac II or Ontario RAT I are very well regarded around here (I have the Utilitac). They can be had for less than $30 or so.

A kershaw Cryo or Thermite are still under $40 and are recommended (I have a thermite).

If you want to step up a little in materials and go above $40, take a look at Kershaw's USA made line. Find one that looks good to you and do some research here on it with the search functions. Some Amazon reviews can be helpful but just as many can be completely worthless.

If you are looking at fixed blades in your budget, look at Condor or Svord. Above your budget, I would look at Becker knife and Tool and ESEE.

There are tons of options out there for almost any budget range. If you have a question about one, ask it here in the thread you started or use the search function to see if others have asked the same question or if there are reviews.

And Welcome!

First one I thought of too.

Keep in mind, it's hard to chop wood with a knife let alone one that is only 6 or 7 inches in total. Also keep in mind that a knife that short may not be super comfortable in the hand unless you have a small hand. By hammering do you mean batoning? Again, larger and beefier blades work better for that too.

Gonna have to check this when i get home.

But short reply: i want a fixed full tang. Around 6 to 7 inches total.

Brands?
My knowledge in knives is none.

So i only bought for the appearance.

I do have big hands but i want something also easy to cover, hide in a pocket, all day carrying around.

I think batoning might be what i meant.

I will follow craytab's sugestions.
Thank you all so very much.

What is a good online store to buy them and ship to Puerto Rico?

The Becker BK11 or BK14 would be great go-to knvies if you want a rock-solid, hard-use fixed blade that you can concealed/pocket carry. I have a BK14 and love it, though I don't get to EDC it due to the laws here.

Well, if you were previously buying cheap folders you probably got a very bad impression of them.

Buy a Cold Steel Tri-Ad lock knife and tell me you don't feel secure about the lock ;)

The Izula or Izula 2 are similar to the BK14 and are also great little edc fixed blades that start around $40. A few dollars more for the micarta scales or the "kit" version, but they come in a bunch of colors and you get the awesome no questions asked lifetime warranty on them.

So far i am liking this one a lot but i would like a handle without the hole space design. i would like it full and solid.

Aight the Schrade SCHF14 drop-point fixed blade, was the one i was going to buy until i read many reviews on amazon.

You can get some micarta handles for the bk 11 and I'd suggest a TDI clip, it's a clip that comes with screws that is meant for the sheath on the bk11. The knife, handles, and clip may be above your budget, but it will be worth it in the long run for sure.

Here you see it on the right with the handles.
Other blades pictured are the bk9 (far left) and bk2 (middle)

All made by Kabar Becker Knife & Tool.

First off, welcome to the forum. Not too sure on fixed blades but I know Ontario makes high value fixed blades. Btw, do you know that you can tighten most knives ('m assuming the one you had that was loose was from the pivot). Typically, most makers use Torx and flathead screws for their pivots. Just take the screw out put some Loctite so it doesn't loosen as quickly. If you get bit by the "bug" like most on here, you'll learn alot about knives and get many more as well 😁.

Welcome!

I was not sure what your price range was - but consider that you can spend a little and get a lot - Beckers are a great choice, there are some other companies making good fixed blades.

You have ventured into the Bladeforums, however, and I want to show you that you can spend a little more and get a handmade custom knife made just how you want it - Check out some of the JK Handmade knives -

Good luck, and I am sure you will get something nice, you sure came to the right place to get your information!

Harkadenn,

Welcome to the forum.

Years ago I dropped a Busse Game Warden into a jacket pocket. I gradually realized how much I liked that knife. Not just because Busse puts out a great product.

I liked the proportions. Four inches of handle that felt good in hand—and I have big hands. Three inches of sturdy, useful blade. Seven inch overall. Those are my perfect proportions for a pocket fixed blade. Provided you have big pockets.

On the other hand…yes, the Busse GW has a full tang with sandwich scales. That’s the standard Busse MO. But I don’t understand why you’d require it. What can you do with a knife that small, which might break a hidden tang?

I'm sorry to say this, but it seems like you are looking for a rather hard to find knife. A knife with near 3" blade and near 4" handle isn't going to yield a great knife to baton with, but on the flip side, it will be a good size for edc.
The becker bk14 or bkr14 (as it is being called on some sites now) seems like it would fit the bill. If you were looking for something a little longer lasting, edge retention wise, the bk24 should work, but the d2 tool steel wouldn't be suggested for a novice for sharpening.

If you can hold out a bit, save a little and find a bk2 for around 60. That little tank can handle your batoning needs as well as hold a good edge while still being easy to sharpen. it is a little larger than you are looking for, but will stand up to your needs and tasks at hand.

So grateful for all of those sugestions and help.

I think I have made up my mind.

I will buy the Izula RAT.
But was wondering if there is any significant difference between the Izula RAT and the Izula 2?

I also really liked the Condor lifeland hunter, sadly there wheren't enough reviews of that one or any real testing.

I think an Izula either 1 or 2 will do perfect for daily joh at a construction sight and more.

As for a folding knife... Still cant find one.
