New to the forum and need a knife

So grateful for all of those sugestions and help.

I think I have made up my mind.

I will buy the Izula RAT.
But was wondering if there is any significant difference between the Izula RAT and the Izula 2?

I also really liked the Condor lifeland hunter, sadly there wheren't enough reviews of that one or any real testing.

I think an Izula either 1 or 2 will do perfect for daily joh at a construction sight and more.

As for a folding knife... Still cant find one.

If I wanted to replicate the Game Warden’s proportions in a less expensive format, I’d look at the IZULA 2. It’s handle has an extra half inch of length compared to the IZULA 1. That makes all the difference.

I couldn't find much about the Game Warden.

The only site was the official and their all extremely expensive.

The main difference between the Izula 1 (I assume this is what you mean by Izula RAT) and 2 is the handle. The 1 has a skeletonized handle that you must wrap yourself in paracord for grip. The Izula 2 has micarta handle slabs, and I believe the handle is slightly longer as well. The 2 will be heavier and bulkier, but will have much better ergonomics. You can also add micarta slabs to the Izula 1 if you're so inclined.

Izula 2 costs bit more than Izula 1.

I don't mind the handle. I am ok with corded handle or shorter.

ESEE 3 or Izula, a little more than your $40 budget, but you'll forget all about that once you get it in your hands.

A Scrapyard Scrapivore would be another good choice, or any of the Beckers mentioned above.

Fixed Blade: Spend just a little more than $40 and get a Becker.

Folder: Start out with a Buck 110. Also $40 and can be found almost anywhere.

Welcome to Bladeforums! :)

Loving the Buck 119.
So, now my choice to buy are between an Izula 1 and the Buck 119.

However, I am more inclined to the Izula because the Buck 119 is 3/4 tang.

The Izula have the holes on the tang as the design but looks stronger though.

I wonder if there is any significance difference between the tang of an Izula 1 and 2. For me the tang is one of the most important detail. I liked them full and strong.

Folder ones... Cold Steel Recon 1 so far...

I tried searching for Scrapyvor but got nothing.

Anything else?

Wow what a beautiful piece of steel!

Ok now is even harder to decide.
izula 1, 2 or scrapivore?

I need a strong tang.

Rowan, who makes the Isulas, has a good reputation for quality and heat treat. I’ve never owned one, so I can’t speak personally.

I do own blades by Swamp Rat and Scrap Yard. Their heat treat of 52-100 gets more and better out that steel anyone else I know.

The Scrapivore might be slightly better steel, but that's debatable, they are both great. The Izula is likely a better value for you, the problem with the Scrapivore is that a sheath is not included, but the Izula comes complete.

The Izula I and II are almost identical, the II has an extra half inch in the handle so if your hands are on the large size the II is the way to go. The II also comes with handle scales, if you want them with the I it's an extra few dollars. The II can be had for about $5 more than the I with optional scales.

I've got both the Scrapivore and a couple Izulas, both are great. I'm happy enough with the Izula I that I haven't felt the need to upgrade to a II.

Thank you very much for your suggestions.

I will order the Izula 1. Even though I have big hands, I never have trouble with short or small knives.

Izula 1 is the winner.
Will be posting as soon as I receive it.

Still searching for a good folding one though.

Thank you all, this really helped me a lot.

Here's a pic of mine with a Spyderco Chaparral to hold you over. It's a really great little edc fixed blade, imo. I wouldn't worry about the tang strength, if you do somehow manage to bend or break it, you're covered. ESEE will send you a new one :)

Here's one more pic. If you're looking for an inexpensive "hard use" folder, I use a Svord Peasant. I think mine was under $15. They have a mini size now as well.
