New to the forum-but having fun

I recently obtained a Benchmade 771, which is a brother to your 773. It's the first axis lock folder I've had, and I'm quite pleased with it. Pleased enough in fact, that I've got a 960 scheduled for delivery in two days. This series (77x) was designed to be a "gentleman's folder", and I find that it fits the bill quite nicely. The blade shape and thickness make for a nice utilitarian small knife, not quite the slicer as a William Henry T9 or T10, but providing a sturdier, stronger feel. The axis lock also provides an impressive detent; the tip of my little finger discovered this as I was getting the feel of opening and closing it the first day. Hope you like yours as much as I like mine.

Gday Marlin39d,

Nice choice with the 710, i own a 710HS with M2 steal and realy like to carry and use this knife. Recurve blades, like the 710, can be a little tricky to sharpen, but the Sharpmaker 204 makes the job easier. Benchmade's are well put together and the Axis locking mechanism is a winner.

Congrats on your purchase, I think you have chosen wisely.

dryfly,

I had a hard time choosing between the 771 and 773. I guess they're identical except for the color of the handle. I also noticed that the 771 comes with the optional boron carbide coating (supposedly much harder on the rockwell scale than hardened steels of different types).

Several people on the 1911forum have had thier 45 autos coated with this treatment and say it wears better than industrial hard chroming. Very impressive indeed.

My two knives should arrive tommorow or Tuesday. I can't wait.

BTW, Does anyone know if there are any 770's to be had??? I searched the net and made numerous phone calls but everyone that advertised them were sold out and didn't know if they were going to get any more in. That was my first choice over the 771 or 773. Now that was a neat looking little knife!!!

Stockman,

I also tried to find the 710HS as I've heard great things about the edge-holding abilities of M2 steel but had no luck there either. Oh well. :(
