Just ordered me a M-43 from HI. It will be my 1st hand crafted knife. Fell in love with kuk style blades when I got the Carbon-V, Cold Steel version & wanted something with a little more heft.

& dropped into the forum to meet the HI gang. :)

Welcome to the crew, and the addiction. The HIKV will set in the moment the blade hits your hands. As someone's signature says: These are like shiny lays potato chips. Rather sharp, too.

And with 100% of your monthly iron and lots of fibers too. No risk of cavities I heard. Almost no calories.

Welcome Turok. :D

Welcome. You'll love the M43. Condolences on the HIKV. Just as Darth said, it'll start when your first HI blade hits your hands.

Welcome to the fold:)

I too got my start on a Cold Steel khuk like object. 13 years later, the cs are gone and a truck full of HI remain. I'm sorry to say, hikv has no cure. It's a glorious sickness. Embrace it;)

I'll not say what my first khukuri was, as it's rather embarassing. Let's say it was 15 dollars and came from a catalog. Shipped to me duller than a butter knife (not even a rounded grind, literally square at the edge) and a rather brittle temper. I still use it for a beater machete.

Wecome 00Turok! If you liked that CS your in for a real treat now! I have one of them Khuklike objects too. I broke a big chunk out of the blade and had to cut it down. Its more Kobra shaped now. Ill probably temper it down and rehandle it someday so I dont break it:rolleyes: Enjoy your stay here and have fun with that M43. \

Some companies market the heck out of an object and figure on selling one model number to everyone in the world and they have achieved success and fortune. HI sells the best Khuks money can buy and lets there customers do the talking. It is very rare for someone to have just one HI Khuk. When you see the quality value and workmanship your getting with your first Khuk you just have to have another..and ..another.....Pretty much all of us are repeat customers:thumbup:

welcome turok, I hope you find your stay here as pleasant as the rest of us have :D, and look forward to seeing your collection grow!

Repeat customers? You mean, hopelessly, HIKV, chronic repeaters, right....? :p

Yeah yeah! Thats what I meant to say. My spell check musta deleted all that:rolleyes: We forgot to ask if he is married. Its especially hard on us who have to support families and such.

True, True, could always use Bawanna's night time protective measures from the wife, by just sleeping with a garbage cans over our heads...

My wife likes blades too. She'll probably want me to get her one after mine arrives.

Man you guys sound like the folks at the M-14 Forum. Most don't stop at just one M14/M1A.

So let me guess. The HI slogan goes like this... Collect all you want, we'll make more.

Your wife likes blades too?! Oh, oh....be ready to lose a few to her then. Let's see, I've lost my Kumar Karda, Hasiya, antler handled knife, pen khukuri, and some others to her. I get to "borrow" them for maintenance once in awhile, but that's about it.

Oh yeah, we have quite a few M1A collectors here too, and yes, one is never enough...:D

Welcome 00Turok,
Sounds like you have picked a great starter blade, as in very good for a lot of tasks so you might not feel the immediate need for others... then again. History does tend more towards the sudden "NEED" for additional blades. As far as spouses "borrowI blades. Yeah, my hubby would probably claim possession "ownership" of about 5-6 of my blades. Though he tends to favor the ones that lean more towards weapon than tool. Something makes me think that he believes that keeps me from expecting him to do more yardwork than an actual preference for those over the nice hefty choppers.

Look forward to hearing how you like the M-43 once you get it in hand. Also there are a couple threads here in the cantina that if you wanted to discuss a love of M-14/M1As you could resurrect and I don't believe anyone would mind. :D

Ahah, the old defender versus worker ploy. Your husband gets to scare off an intruder once every few years, while you get to do the yardwork every day. Sounds fair to me. :)

Like the male lion who kills a hyena now and then, while the females do most of the hunting.

I agree that the M43 is a great HI model to start with, whether it's the 18" powerhouse or the 15" pit bull, or anything in between.

Yeah David I imagine it would sound "fair" to most husbands out there :D Unfortunately for him we have other bladed yard tools that are his exclusively. While I can and do peen the scythe, I am just too short to use it effectively. Though when it comes to hunting, I am pretty sure he would be annoyed if I left him home when I go, but I just might try that lion sleeping in the sun concept next August. Saving the cost of his Eastside elk masterhunter and 2 mandatory transport tags as well as all his other costs would be worth the risk :D Those early season tags sure do add up when you figure cost per pound of meat.
