New to the forums and looking for some advice!

If you're worried about freaking people out, get an A100.

If your worried about freaking people out ..........stop worrying about what other people think.

If your knife is with in legal peramiters (and frankly even if it's not) it's of no concern to any one else what you are carrying.

I carry an EKI Persian at the office quite often as well as an Umnumzaan and I could'nt care less what people think or say. Being the boss is kind of handy in that respect though. :p

I'm not really too too concerned with what other people think but what I don't want at all is to be hassled or questioned. For my purposes I don't really need a blade higher than 3 inches but what I do need is a strong hard use blade that I can use reliably and not have to worry about breaking on me. I figured that a small thick blade like on the cqc-14 would be perfect for my needs. If owners or both zts and emersons are advising to go with zts then I'm going to take that advice. I will however still get an Emerson so I can have my own opinion about them.

If someone tries hassle or question me about what I'm carrying I just explain to them what cough syrups for ;):D.......

I get that, but it's a little like putting a full size grip on a snub nose revolver. It generally runs contrary to the whole concept of downsizing.

Downsizing is the concept with models like the Mini CQC-7, Mini Commander, etc; not the idea with the CQC-14. Different tool with a different focus.

So what is the general focus of the cqc-14 with a full-size handle?

From the EKI site:

This is the legal, carry knife, you've been waiting for. Thanks to the request from my friend Harry, we now make a knife you can legally carry (in most areas) yet still pack a heavyweight punch. The blade is under 3 inches long - way under 3 inches. So now, no one can argue whether it's legal or not. Yes, it has a full size handle, so you know you've got a real knife in your hand. As I've said before, this is the ultimate pocket protector.

The "minis" tend to have rather small handles for a lot of folks, I'm not a huge guy by any means and I find them to be on the small side too. A knife with a full sized handle and small blade was asked for and produced. IIRC it was a friend of STR that got that ball rolling so maybe he can chime in with a few more words.

What QC issues are people experiencing?

I dare say ive owned or handled a larger number of EKI production knives than the average joe in here and I have never seen a single quality control issue.
Emersons are hard use knives so they are not all smooth and pretty like a dress knife...

im just curious what SPECIFICALLY people are talking about

Well, if you want me to be specific and even pick flys.......

For me personally it's things like the lazer cutting marks being left on the edge of the liners. The spacer/liners and scales often don't fit to well. I have had knives with striped screws. I've seen knives (especially with the new tumbled finish satin) that have burnt tips and rounded off points. The change to SS on the off side liner was a turn off for me also, although that obviously has less to do with F&F but starts the "materials used issue".

This whole "it's a hard use knife so it's OK" road apple excuse is just rubbish......

And I dare say I've owned and handled a larger number of EKIs than the average Joe in here too. ;)

ZT good knife, I have 4 no problems at all.

First Emerson and the blade has alot of side to side, lock sticks, and 3 weeks of EDC the lock almost touches the other side.

If you puchase an Emerson look at it first don't buy off the net.
