New to this, what should I watch for in the blem box?

I just looked:eek: I think that might do it for what I need. If I get it, I'll post some pics ASAP. Then I'm going to chop some trees down behind the house:D

I pronounce it KOO-kooree, but hey, I'm as new as you...

How do the rest of you pronounce it???

I thought Jerry's last name was like the actor Gary Busse for a long time:o I just want to start off right. I don't know anybody that has any of these knives, so I am probably never going to hear the word pronounced by anyone but me. Unless one of you guys calls the house.:D

Me too...

Uncle Bill some times offers a discount if you take all four or five deal of the day's in the same box.

Look, for all practical purposes a khuk that's around 17 inches long +/- an inch ( 16" to 18" ) will do the job for you. The 15" AK would also do.

The Kobra is really not a khuk. It looks like one, but isn't warranteed as one because it isn't meant to be a chopper. A 19 or 20 inch kobra might also work out excellently for you as a machete replacement, but if you try chopping 2 or 3 inch thick saplings or branches, it will eventually fail.

Again, grab any 16 to 18" in the blem box and you'll get more than you paid for.

Read Uncle's directions on ordering, and if you're serious, call him when you see the deal you want. Quicker than even a prewritten draft to fill out and send. And if you're on the phone, you can grab a secnd or third choice, or he may tell you, "Well, I was going to put this up tomorrow, but I'll let you have it today..." Tape his phone number on your puter or phone, make up a draft to send him if he's on the phone, etc.

In one way I'm trying to de-mystify the broad range of stuff khuks can do. Most of them can do most things for you.

The reason I want to de-mystify the subject is that then we can talk seriously about the truly magical and mystical in hand forged blades. IUf you've ever picked up a camera and everything was exactly where it should be...

But khukuris go beyond ergonomics passed down through 20 or more generations. You don't find it every time. If you let the khuk teach you it will, But every now and then you touch one that feels made for you. Or that makes you feel like Arthur Pendragon holding the sword he's just pulled out of the stone. Enough mumbo jumbo ( even if it's all true! ).

After 3 beers, we say it anyway we want to. Next question?:D :D :D

Bobby, if nothing else, we can call each other man! Then we can just make up names;)
Yup! Gotta love the Flugendor on the Aikenavako!!!

Thanks for the advice. I already sent an email a little while ago for the 15" AK. I did make sure to look at the directions at the top of the forum and tried to follow them. I bet I will end up with another one sometime, but that seemed like a good price and it just needs some glue or epoxy.

I like that little letter opener.
It's nice to have.
I use one for a paring knife.
(and once to carve/shave sheetrock around extensive water damage)
Some use it as a neck knife.
Box cutter, utility blade, other uses.
Some even use it as a envelope opener.

Be sure you specify steel
(at one time, -some- were brass blades)
It might help to say what you want to use it for.
Not great hardness on mine
(about average for a generic kitchen knife)
But these are more likely than 'real' khuks to vary a bit.
