New Todd Begg Clandestine Hunter

Thanks everyone. I have just been wanting to try some different stuff out. sometimes I have to get away from filling orders and let the creative juices flow. another thread got me to thinking about makers posting pics of their work and seeking praise, publicity etc. but I really do want feed back, its the only way I can make a better knife.

As a serious hunter, the three things I really need in a knife are
1) good edge retention
2) light weight
3) highly visible

1) goes without saying, probably. Field dressing an animal with cold hands and a dull knife is a great way to get a serious cut. S30V in a hunting knife is a great idea- but I would much prefer a more straight edge than the very deep belly of this design, and I think 4 1/2" is too long for a hunting blade (3.5" is more than enough), but that's just me.

2) I have enough heavy things I need to carry- and sturdy knife doesn't need to be heavy. Making the knife a bit smaller would make it more attractive to me.

3) Most "hunting knives" come in camoflage, which is ridiculous (in a practical sense). If you drop it, it becomes a major PITA to find. I want a hunting knife to be blaze orange, or better yet very highly reflective (like a glow-tack or street sign) so when I set it down to reposition a deer, I can find it again without fumbling. It is very rare to wear a hunting knife outside of your clothing, there is just no reason to not have a brightly colored knife. In this regard, I love the orange/camo look. Very practical.

When you are field dressing a deer two miles back in the woods, in the dark, in the rain- you really come to appreciate a good blade. I have never found what I consider to be a great hunting knife- but I think this knife would be pretty close...

Those are all excellent points to consider.....thanks!! Now thats what I call feed back!
