Lousy, crappy pics(why I don't ever take or post pics), GREAT knife, got drawn for it at the Evening of the Cutlery Arts on Friday.

Don't know the name, don't know the steel....

Blackwood scales, ss frame construction, engraved by maker..

5 3/4" blade of mosaic damascus

10 3/4" OAL

Thanks again, Tom!;)

Best Regards,

STeven Garsson

I could tell that was a Ferry knife just from the shape of the guard. Beautiful piece, STeven. I'll take a crappy pic over no pic every time. Thanks for showing.

The guard is DONE! This is an "after" shot. Mitch Lum took "before" pics, as soon as I get one, I'll post it.

Best Regards, Tanya!

Where did you grind the guard?

I ground about 3/8" from the front of the guard today, shaped it and etched it...it is now roughly symmetrical, and you can't tell what I did....I'll show it to you next time I see you.

Tom has an irrational penchant for assymetrical guards.....even my wife agreed it looks better this way, and she thinks I'm an idiot for Garssonizing, usually.

Steve your pic dose not show the killer frame on this knife give the folks a shot from the top down. I have held this knife its very nice.

That would require the agony of trying to shoot another pic, Dave, and this puppy is packed for shipping to Mr. P. Long, right now.

Dave is referencing the SUPERB S.W. style frame engraving that Tom did, BTW.

Hey Buddy this is a wicked looking well done fighter. Very classy in a gothic kinda way great score you have excellent taste. Would like to see a pic of guard before it was Garssonized. I have one of STeven's knives that he modified and to my eye I would not have know it was worked on unless he told me. Great score

A contradiction knife: complexity in simplicity, which must explain why we (I) have not seen such a knife before. To call it great errs on the conservative side. I printed 2 copies for future references and inspiration.

That Tom Ferry name keeps popping up in all the high places, which does not bode well for we of small purses and big dreams.

That was the one I would have wanted off Tom's table. Does look very good after your spa treatment. The blade really appeals to me, I think it's the sharpened clip. Nice score!

You took 3/8" off the front of the guard? Man that was a thick guard!!!

Does the knife come apart?

Nice lookin knife, STeven!

Wicked looking blade even if it is not 10" long.
Refreshing design too.

All the best,
David Darom (ddd)

I'd have to see before and after photos to get an appreciation for what the modification did for the looks of the knife. I like it the way it is though.

I like everything about it. Call me a wuss but I dont think I have the balls to regrind a Ferry knife. What did you do?

Nice lookin knife, STeven!

It WAS wide....and assymetrical.

It doesn't come apart..... ground and shaped it from the bottom, because that is where the taper is......started with Cubitron, and worked down to cork and Scotchbrite belts to feather the grinds.....then comes the hard part.

I use a q-tip to apply the etchant until the transition disappears, than use a vial as an etching tank, masking off areas with shoe polish until the whole thing looks proper.....it took 3 hours, but to me, was worth it.

The clip is not sharpened, Win, I wish it was, but not bad enough to do it myself.

steven thanks for sharing....i love tom ferry's work.....just a quick question if you don't mind....why buy it if you didn't like the guard....r u worried about the value of the piece after modifying it.....why not get a piece of tom's that you think is perfect the wy it is.....ryan

1. Bought it because I could see the potential....have you ever seen a guard that looked like this on one of Tom's knives? I haven't, they always have an assymetrical guard, and I could live with the width of the back guard as a baseline...overall, the knife is extremely compelling.....the steel ROCKS!!!!!......and I wanted to make sure that the show started off on a good note for Tom...this is his first year, and I was one of the people who recommended him to Dan for inclusion.

2. Will the value go south a bit for my mods? Sometimes yes, sometimes no...depends about how much it matters to the next buyer.....I have always given full disclosure, and have never taken a hit off my price, but there is always next time....I don't worry about it.

3. Tom and I would have to know eachother a LOT better in order for him to nail a fixed blade for me the first time out....but this will probably be my only Ferry fixed blade, I have my sights on one of his folding tantos next, and those are perfect as is.

Best Regards,

STeven Garsson
