I have been wanting to try a different type of tongs to hold blades while forging. I made these this week end. They seem to work well so far. Anyone use this type?

I use some like that from Glen Strolmeyer. They are handy for holding barstock and I have a 1" and 1 1/2" set. I will beef up the 3/8" handles real soon though. So far Glen is the only source I know of that makes them so it's good excuse to make your own.

I have some of Glen's tongs also and have been using them for about two years. These are a bit different. They grip the stock along the side of the tong ends instead of between them. The grip jaws are offset.

I made these up a few months ago:

Nice tongs mike, they are the BEST way to hold flat stock. I like how yours grab offset like that though, gonna have to try that.

I really like those tongs ! Nice job cooter

Looks like a rock solid method for holding onto a blade. I have to pick up a set of those ;)

I like yours too Sam  Very nice !
