Hello all , im new to knife making. I started about a week ago. ive got 2 RR spike knives done and a stock removal machete almost done. started out messin' around and now in love (now that i think about it thats how i got married too:o). anyway did all that at my pop's mechanic shop with all his tools and now im moving. my new place has a sweet shop out back. Im starting out with min hand tools and a vice. i can make a forge that'll get me by and i know i need an anvil but as far as grinders and belt sanders im fairly green so any recommendations would be much appreciated

thx, Ian

Welcome to the Bladeforums.

The stickies at the top have a lot of info. If your dad has a machine shop, you may want to look at the plans for the "No Weld Grinder" ( which can be welded,BTW).

Many folks start with a very simple 2X36 or 2X48 grinder. Using files to start is not a bad idea. It will teach you patience, and will allow you to pay attention to the details.

Take your time, plan your work. Ask questions before you do something you are not sure about, it can save a lot of problems.

Welcome ,again.

Thanks for the links Esav.
My dads shop has mainly all mechanics tools (for cars) so i used his bench grinder, angle grinder and he had a big stationary disc sander(i diddnt really use). I did use files quite a bit and they do teach patience.
Thx for the tip Stacy

Ian.
