Hi all,

I've been away for awhile and thought I'd bring you up to date. First off, I'm getting a new dog this Friday! My brother can't keep his 4 year-old female lab any more, so I'm adopting her. Can't say no to family and she's family! Her name is Sadie and I've got a photo, but I have to resize it before posting... or your screen would stretch out til tomorrow. She is a certified junior duck retriever and all around sweetie! I'll post a pic later today.

I also got a bad case of MAD-V (male acquitisional disorder virus) and purchased a new shotgun... which I quickly modded for home defense/SHTF duties :D It was an obsession which has run its course... except I want to get a Vang Comp barrel for it too. I won't be taking it out duck hunting with Sadie... but I could build another one for that :D.

Don't know about guns, but if it'll do what you want it to and you're happy that's what counts. Now Sadie, she looks like a real sweetie. Congrats on both new additions.

Dayum Uwinv! What's goin on up in your part of the country that you need such serious firepower for home defense? That's more like what's needed for home defense against the home invasions that's been going on in our part of the country for quite some time, read, "Too damned long!" and especially for the elderly and infirm! IMHO a whole helluva lot of the home invasions could be stopped if folks would lock their doors, preferably with a deadbolt and better yet have their outside doors checked and if, "Hollow Core" have them replaced with, "Solid Core" doors along with the deadbolts and be sure 3" long screws are used for their installation! :D

Nice lookin Black Lab ya got there with Sadie! :D  Whacha got in mind in the way of a shotgun(s) to build to go a duck huntin with Sadie? :p ;)

Going by that photo, Sadie is going to be keeping you on your toes, she has that look of keen canine intelligence mixed with a heap of potential mischief that makes living with dogs so much fun and challenging at the same time. I bet she has you doing her bidding within the first week ! ;) :p :D

Thanks all. Sadie's arrival got put off until Monday due to weather concerns. I can't wait to be subject to her canine intelligence/mischief :). It has been too long already.

Yvsa... we've actually had two murders here in Sheridan in the last six months. One was a home invasion of sorts by three minors who shot an elderly man 3 times point blank with a stolen 9mm. The shooter was 15 years old.

I'm seriously thinking of getting another 870 to go hunting with. There is a sweet one at the LGS for $299... an older "plain jane" 12 gauge 28" barrel and gorgeous walnut stocks. I'm kicking myself for not putting it on layaway after work tonight... will go back tomorrow and see if its still there.

Duck... glad to hear from you! I'll pass on your howdy to Brian. :)

BTW... ordered a Vang Comp barrel for the 870 at lunchtime today. Couldn't resist the half-off sale! But that's it... I'm done tinkering with her. Well, maybe an NP3 treatment of the internals... but that's all.

Any shotgun is a good shotgun in my book:thumbup::D I had a tactical 870 for a time, but retired her when I found a super worn in but not worn out 870P. Reduced my capacity by 2 shells, but the short length of pull and 18 instead of 18.5" barrel (man a lil goes a long way;)) makes it a real quick pointing shooter. On top of that, I got to refinish the stock with a few coats of poly coat stain and blue up some boo boos on the barrel finish.

As a matter of fact, this thread inspired me to FINALLY finish up (ie START) the leather shotgun holster I've been wanting to make. Should throw over the shoulder easily, protect the gun from foul weather, and even sling over my passenger seat of my truck for fast access should it be deemed necessary:thumbup:

Very nice gun!

nice set up with it, is that stock a Knoxx from BLACKHAWK?

Sadie looks real cute too, what a great picture.

Hi TKAZ... thanks! Yes, it is a Knoxx RR stock.

Sadie arrives on Monday... I feel like an expectant father. I also feel bad for my brother having to send his pup away. I'm going to try and pay for him to come visit her this summer.

Steely... DO share pics when you finish your shotty holster!! I purchased a Voodoo Tactical shotgun sheath... but my 870 won't fit because of the Surefire forearm.

DAYUM!!!! Guess maybe you could put one to use after all! :( But a rash of home invasions gives everyone in that location a double damned good reason to have all their outside doors locked.....
It's also a damned good reason to replace the old outside hollow core doors on your homes if that's what you have with solid core doors and be sure and use the 3" minimum length screws as recommended and while you're at it install a good quality deadbolt lock as well!!!! Damned Difficult to kick in a door like that!  :D At the very least it's a good time to install deadbolt locks if'en you don't have 'em even if'en there's some reason you can't replace the old hollow core doors!!!! :D

That's what I was thinking, too. Looks like a smart one.

Anyway, you don't have nearly enough stuff on your shotgun.

LOL... I'm still not sold on the Knoxx stock yet. I very well might minimize to a Hogue Overmold Short LOP stock (12" LOP). I'd cut the weight down some. But she sure does shoot nice :D.

Sadie arrived after a long day of air travel. After a bath, dinner, a long walk and some snuggling, she is asleep on the couch at my side :). She's a great dog and if today's walk is any indication, she'll be wearing off my extra lbs. in no time flat!

Kis, I'lll try and get some more photos by the weekend. I have to borrow my gf's camera.

Sad news... Sadie arrived and is a really sweetheart. However, as is the case with a lot of dogs who spend their lives in a kennel, she is overly aggressive with other dogs :(.

She's great one-on-one and if I was alone, I'd keep her... but she is too aggressive with my girlfriend's Labradoodle (also named Sadie) and we're afraid to even introduce her to the Scottish Terrier as she is a VERY alpha female... there'd be blood before it was over (she's the one who gave Buddy six stitches).

So Sadie gets to go back to my brother in NC. He's cleared it with the family and she can now stay where she belongs... with her daddy. It is costing a bundle to get her back to NC... but it is for the best.

Me... I'm going to give up on doggies for a while (still dealing with missing Buddy) and just accept my girlfriend's Labradoodle as my dog (I'm her male influence anyway), as well as the Scotty. Now I just have to arrange for sleepovers :).

Here are photos of the Labradoodle (Sadie) and Scotty (Allie):
