New toy for mtngunr

I have a stainless steel old army with a 7.5 in barrel. I love the 4 inch versions but they are become hard to find. I bought my last one used at the Kittery Trading Post for $375... It's hella strong! The Italian brands aren't that bad, you can get a 45acp cylinder and shot standard 800fps 230 grain lead safely out of a Pietta or Uberti.

One of the few disadvantages of .45 Colt is the smallness of the rim compared to .44 mag or .454 casull. Not always levergun (or DA revolver) friendly.
I had a colt New Service in .45 LC whose ejector star would occasionally jump a tiny case rim. Nuisance.

The rims are not near so small nowadays...and extractors made properly for the rim , by makers who listen to customer complaints.....i use Starline cases as i wore out my old brass long ago (although it took a decade or more due to low pressures and every one was a neck crack)...i like both .44 and .45 and find any difference in strong guns only theoretical, especially for a handloader.

I have owned 4 OAs but nowadays stick to the concept of smoothbore percussion for firing even in rain and ease of cleaning....no shots needed past 75yds down here and 40yds is more like it...but enjoy the 10min cleaning in a bucket of hot soap water and pumping clean with rod and entire back end of barrel in bucket....as with the .45, big and heavy and medium velocity works every time....nothing tricky such as will this mushrooming wonder bullet blow a crater at point blank or not expand at outside ranges....just whack it where it needs to be whacked. I like simple which is why i like khukuris

Of course, the next knife will be a sword...which makes all manner of sense....will hang on wall and tell visitors it is the latest thing in designer fire axes, and don't tell me you still have one of those clunky old fashioned red things at your place?!
