so i wandered down to one of my favorite knife haunts today and found a new toy. it's a dozier folding hunter by ka bar in D2 steel with an anodized aluminum handle in a nice gunmetal blue. it's a liner lock; there's no pocket clip but it's very slim and slips nicely into a pants pocket. i think they've been discontinued; i couldn't find it on the ka bar website and another knife site listed them as such.

there's VERY aggressive jimping on the spine of the blade; it's deep and sharp. when the knife is opened the jimping juuuuust pokes up over the scales, so it's enough to grip tightly but not so exposed as to be uncomfortable. the locking liner also has good jimping to help with grip.

Very nice. I personally love the drop point hunter Kabar Dozier in AUS8. How's the D2 on it? I find that the AUS8 is a bit on the soft side, is it the same case with the D2 as well?

swe, i got it at a gun shop called young guns. they have a good selection of knives with lots of spydercos, kershaws, zt's and cold steels. i paid $80 for it.

ziptrickhead, i haven't cut anything with it yet and this'll be my first knife in D2. i'm familiar with benchmade's 154CM and kershaw's 14c28 sandvik, but this'll be new. i'll update later on after i've carried this for a bit. :)

This is a great knife. It comes with a good edge and with a bit of stropping, becomes even better. Mine lives in my first aid kit as an emergency scalpel.

A bit surprising that this one never took off. This may be due that it was a bit pricey when it came out. Got mine at KnifeWorks about 4 years ago when it went on sale, may have been the close out sale.

yeah, i was surprised to learn that it was discontinued. with the aus-8 versions' seeming popularity i figure one in a much better steel would have been more widely accepted.

The Aus-8 versions are cheap and come with some variety of choices.

Another great one is the K-Bar Dozier Thorn, complete with Dozier's Tab-Lock. Also discontinued, try to look it up. You may like that one too.

Looks like a great knife, but is the liner as flimsy as it looks?

I would be a bit afraid to use that for anything more than paper.

moretoasties, the liner locks up tight with a lot of tension and zero blade play. it hits a bit forward of a quarter of the blade thickness with lots of room for wear. and i wouldn't use this hard anyway; most of my tasks are pretty light. i have heavier knives for heavy jobs.

I had one a few years back... it's built with the precision of a Swiss watch.

I sold it only because I wasn't using it and I have several similar knives.

It's a great knife
