Just wondering if anyone knows what happened to the slipjoint swap meet? I really miss it.

Someone, or ones were evidently abusing the privilege and Blues locked the thread:
"Unfortunately, we have become aware of some abuses of the spirit and intended use of this thread and as a result it is being closed.

Until further notice, all proposed knife trades on these forums must be directed toward the appropriate area of the "Exchange"."

Then it was "un-stuck", and has been drifting away ever since.

Too bad really. Not sure what was happening, just know it's gone, for now anyway.

It is unfortunate...however when Gus and I became aware of certain "liberties" that were taken (to circumvent the spirit of the thread) we agreed that it was best to close it rather than issue infractions and get into a whole new can of worms as a result. The decision was not made lightly.

Frankly, the discussion forums were never intended to mimic "the exchange" and I suppose that certain issues were inevitable as a result.

Folks are just going to have to post their slipjoints in the "exchange" (whether for sale or for trade) in the appopriate area.

I have written to Spark privately about establishing a slipjoint or traditional knives section within the exchange but he has not replied. Perhaps I'll resend a note but I took the silence to indicate that he wasn't of a mind to add further sub-groups. This is just a guess on my part.

Some folks have written Gus and myself to ask what issues led to the closing of the swap meet but that is not a road we wish to go down. Let's just let sleeping dogs lie.

If I get any info from Spark regarding any new sub-categories for the exchange I will be sure to pass the info along asap.

EDIT TO ADD:

I've just PM'd Spark about this matter again. I will report back with any news when I have some.

That would be great. As is, it's just not worth my time wading through all the stuff I'm not interested in to find a traditional. As such, I just quick looking.

This is the perfect time to get together with your local traditional enthusiasts, and swap to your hearts content. Or just kick back a few cold ones and try to top each others stories.

the swap was a very noble idea, to be able to not surf endless threads was really comfy and worked various times for me, with really positive feedbacks and outcomes

cheers

I've just received a PM in reply from Spark and the matter is being discussed. I'll be back with updates as things begin to gel a bit more.

Not trying to make work for you Blues, but maybe it could be open to Traditional members only, those with post counts in Traditional. Just a thought.

Dan, that's just really not even worth considering. Everyone on this site, paid member or not has the right to view and make purchases in the "exchange". Where they hang out and post is immaterial.

Let's please just stay on topic here and wait to see what we can realistically accomplish without making this a gigantic headache for Spark and the moderators that have to oversee the "exchange".

Thank you for the effort, Elliot. A traditional section would make it easier to find the knives.

Thanks, Jake. No promises but an honest effort will be made to see what we can do.

Thanks for all the input on the subject and cant wait to hear more from blues on this. Thanks again everyone.

I just got a PM from Spark...based upon my advice that the production knives section was where the biggest problem was most likely to reveal itself in terms of members having difficulty finding "traditional knives" within the overall pile, he has agreed to start out by making a modification to the "exchange" to incorporate a "traditional knives" section within the "production knives" (for sale by individual) area.

We will revisit the need for any additional revamping of the "exchange" as needed.

Hopefully this will address the problems some of you have been having. I don't have a time frame for this to be incorporated so let's just be patient and give Spark a chance to make the necessary changes to the software.

You're welcome, gents. (More info when it becomes available.)
