I got a new Trailmaster and love it!! This is my favorite sheath knife. The black powdercoating on the blade is actually better than I hoped. And, yes, the knife came shaving sharp. Everything about this knife is SOLID!! :)

Congrats on your purchase! These are very solid knives, and hold their edges well. I have had several years of good service out of mine, and expect many more. Enjoy!

Do you mean the Cold Steel Trailmaster Bowie? Yah, it's a pretty good knife. I have it's smaller brother, the Recon Scout "on the way" from a recent trade, but I've owned a few Trailmasters in the past.

Kevan,
Obviously we've got the same taste in knives. I've handled that thing twice and am definetely going to get myself one. Either that or the Recon Scout.

You know, if you don't like the black coating you can take some paint remover and take it off. Then all you need to do is sand the finish of the blade to a nice polish. Start with a lower grit sandpaper and work your way up.

It's a great strong knife ready to take any punishment.

Enjoy!!

The Recon Scout has been discontinued, so if you want one, order it while they still have some in stock.

I heard a similar rumor about the stockmans from Cold Steel. :(

I love my old Trailmaster too, although it's one of the prehistoric models. I asked them why they didn't coat them to remedy the bad rusting of the carbon v and it took them a few years to get around to it. That must be a very big improvement. Enjoy!

....Damn, that is one of my all-time favorite Cold Steel knives!...

...That bit of news makes me REALLY happy that I have one "on the way".:).

The black powdercoating on the blade actually makes the knife very easy to draw from the sheath. It just zips right out. This knife just "fits" my hand perfectly.
