New Twist on an Old Style Finish

That's the question I have. It might hold up well with a huntet but a chopper like this it might wear quickly. I guess I am going to have to break down and build one and parkerize it form myself, oh darn. :D


Look at this blade it's from the custom fighter thread.

I had a very similar idea. I didn't know if blasting or a real deep etch would bring this look out look out. I now suspect Blasting... I would love to get some Detailed photos when you are done... in the mean time could you maybe test a bit of steel and look at it's effect?

That is exactly what I was thinking it would look like. Now I just need to put one together and see how it holds up.
 
Looks great! I tried this before, but it didn't come out anywhere near as nice as yours. I think I was using the wrong media. I may have to try this again.
 
An apprentice of mine, Jeff Davidson has been doing that with his knives that have been differentially hardened, I have not seen one, but he tells me you can see the grain and differential hardening zones. Works just like etching - almost.
