New Umfaan!

What a day! I just got an Umfaan in the mail as well as a MOD CQD. Talk about a contrast, we're talking ultra macho on the one hand and refined gentleman on the other. The MOD is just a beast and the Umfaan is an incredibly sweet little piece. Some of you probably inquired about it- the one with the spear throwing engraving that was for sale recently.

I'm really glad I got it because my small sebenza was in need of a little companionship. I think it is going to be officially adopted as my everyday deep pocket carry.

I guess the next one will have to be the large....or maybe the wood inlay.

Fountainman, Congratulations on the addition to your family of Sebenzas. Also, congratulations to CR Knives for the beautiful yet functional knives that they make for us fellow Sebenzaholics. One is never enough!!!

Fountainman,

Get rid of the Umfaan. Quick!!!

That was my first CR knife. I sold it a couple of months later, BUT I now have 3 Sebenzas (lg., sm., and sm. decorated) and countless CR one piece knives (5 or 6?). Buying fine knives may be habit forming! Get out while you still can!

Michael

PS: Welcome!

Michael, you broke up the Zulu Trio.

Peter, IMHO get the large and then you can decided on the large or small wood inlay.

Don't forget the decorated ones.

Rick,

Had to break up the trio to get the decorated and some CRK fixed baldes!! (I'm sure you understand...) BUT, I must admit that I've had my eye out for a (an) Umfaan lately!

Dennis, you are the Sebenza (including Umfaan) Man.

Is that a Solar Wind Umfaan?

Or are they small Sebenzas that look like the 2000 Umfaan?

Yep, it's a Solar Wind Umfaan. They're all Umfaans. A couple of them have gone to good homes. The unique lefty and the unique feather are gone. The others still reside in La Mesa.

Wouldn't it be nice if there were large and small Sebenzas with the same pattern as the "plain" Umfaan. A person could go broke collecting each year pattern Zulu trio but what a collection that would be.

Trying to tempt me with pictures...

The only thing I have to say to you is: Do you have a link to a higher resolution pic? There might just be something in there that I NEED!

Also... Dennis you always have very fine knives! Get a scanner (tax deduction)!! I'll try to find the James Mattis post telling all of us how to get the best from a scanner. I'm sure it could help us all...

Old posts from James Mattis (Dennis, you will remember these) giving his tips on how to use a scanner to get GREAT knife pictures.

I must note, for picture lurkers, that James is no longer with us and the links to the example pictures posted on his web site no longer exist (Damn shame!). Only the text is still posted in these links. The text does tell us how he did some of those great scans !!!... (Insert here: Smilie face w/ one tear on right cheek...)

I'm kinda new here and didn't even know there was a CR forum. What a resource! I bought my first CR at a knife show last wkend. Been wanting one forever but couldn't decide between the sm. Sebenza or a Umfaan. Never actually saw one because you just don't find them at the "store". A dealer had all 3 folders so it was perfect. Got the Umfaan because I'm a pocket knife type. Lucked out because it was a 1999 and I love the spear and grass design. What could be more perfect for an African heritage? $250 out the door, I'm still floating! If your into high quality pocket knives, check out my review of Whitewing's at the Knife Review Forum. I love this place!
