(New) Uncle Henry Congress?

So no one has had a positive experience with the new Schrade's?

Are they really that much different from the Rough Riders or import Buck's?

I guess I could try it and take it back if it's poor quality. It certainly looks nice.

I don't know why I didn't think of it earlier. Go to the Schrade subforum, and do some looking there. IIRC , there were quite a few discussions about the current production knives. Don't remember reading much positive about them, but you might find better a explaination of the negatives about them.
You have to remember though, the folks in the Schrade s/f are very loyal to the originals (as am I), and don't take kindly to the imports

I went to the store tonight to get it and there were three others buying the same knife (model# 4UH). I got the last one before they sold out.

My overall initial impressions are very good. Fit and finish is great, little to no blade play, no blade rub, good walk and decent talk, no gaps, even grinds and shaving sharp hone on all four blades. The only real negative is that the springs are a little lighter than I prefer, but it does not inhibit function. The springs line up with all four blade spines perfectly, which was a pleasing surprise.

You can say what you want about the China Schrade's, but in my estimation they are quite good; especially for the price. They are most certainly not the crap China knives of the past. They also seem to be very good sellers as there were many people buying the various patterns.

Now I just have to use it extensively to see how good the steel and heat treat are.

I hope that you enjoy your knife but these are the things I noticed. Let me start by saying, several years ago I bid on what I thought was a US made 897UH. What I ended up winning was the Taylor made. The seller would not refund me for the knife because he said I should have been smart enough to know it was the Taylor made. Some of the older members here will remember the seller in question....Andrew Kuntz.

Anyway...

On its face it looks pretty close to the US made knife but that is where the similarity ends. The snap on the blades are much weaker that the US Schrade and I have no really been able to sharpen it and get a good edge like on the US knife. Still, it is not a bad knife. The handles are slightly thicker than the US offerings. I'll post a picture below and you can honestly not see much of a difference.

I am not one of those folks that are "Buy American" at all costs. I own quite a few Spyderco knives that are made here in the US as well as Japan, China and Taiwan. But Schrade was a US company that folded in 04 and was bought up by Taylor.

They took an American legend and turned it into what it is now. I think you will find a lot of people on these forums that do not want to invest hard earned American dollars on these type of knives. I happen to be one of those folks. My choice. Anyway I do hope that the knife turns out to be what you had hoped for. There is more history involved in your purchase than you might realize. It may not matter to you but understand why it matters to others.
