I just saw this. I have always liked this Fred Crater design but never considered it b/c of the manufacturer... well now is a different story.... 154CM and a cool camo color.

If you like it I say that's cool. To ME though, using 154CM on a knife like that is fitting of the term "gilding a turd."

It's really too bad they don't have a usable handle on the UZI. I handled one of the old versions (same design, cheaper steel), and the handle is the worst I've ever held. It's sad, really, because I actually liked the blade design quite a bit. With a proper handle, this could have been a great knife.

Actually, I love the blade shape. It's the handle that needs to be more hand friendly.

United is using real blade steel? No way!

I'll bet if you look closely, it's 154GM or maybe 15.4CM

The stuff probably came in 154cm long bars, but with the caps lock on...

Keep in mind, also, that just because the steel is 154CM does not automatically make the blade great. It has to be heat-treated properly too.

IMO, United - if they choose to - will have to do a lot more than use good steel in order to see a change in general reputation. A lot more.

While I won't be a hypocrit by saying I have never bought a cheap, ripoff knife and that my first knife ever was a Loveless, the truth is that I have never bought a United Cut. knife (for myself ;) ). However, I think that blade is nice, more so in the old model. The handle is very flashy and doesn't look too user friendly and in that we agree.

I certainly believe that this is a step in the right direction... specially recognizing the need for better steels. I hate when knives get downgraded in steel (a recent trend with big manufac. today) so I kind of appreciate their effort.

United is always making crap like this, I bet you the camo finish won't even protect your knife from Al-Quaeda body fluids. The aerodynamic fins incorporated for extra silent 'covert-kill-throwing' scenarios are a nice touch, though. Unfortunately, I think the tip geometry is a little bit off for penetrating Comm-Block body armour.
