I just saw this. I have always liked this Fred Crater design but never considered it b/c of the manufacturer... well now is a different story.... 154CM and a cool camo color.

I thought this knife's handle was stupid the first time I saw it. That said Fred Carter has designed some handsome knives for United. I know it is popular to rip on United because of all the Hibben and hibben style fantasy knives they produce and the 420 steel so common in most of their product line, But, United is improving it's quality. The finish on their newer product is much better than 5 years ago. It is comparable to companies like Cold Steel. United is using better materials on their new product. Much of their new product is made of 440c insted of 420. They are looking to attract custom makers to design product. If they can get a few more big name custom makers to sign on and start using better steel, There will be nowhere to go but down for companies like Buck, CRKT, Cold Steel, who are moving to 420 for the bulk of their product line.

I feel like I should give credit when credit is due.......I just took a tour of the new Arrowhead factory (United) near my home with my knife club. It is a branch of United from what I was told, and it was very well done to say the least.

I was very impressed with the equipment they had like laser, liquid cutters etc.. and LOTS more goodies. :D

No I'm not making this up and I have NO connection to them, it really surprised me after hearing several negative things said about United being said here.

Though I have collected knives for around thirty years and really never saw anything bad about the early United stag/bone folders I had put back.

I was told that 154CM was being used quite often, and I saw lots of brass bushings etc............to be used in pivots..........

After I went through, I found this link below,......I was again impressed.

I will say this, I think these people are serious about trying to make their knives right, at least thats the impression I got.

I will stop here, so as not to ge too far off the original thread.

Robbie Roberson ;)

The Arrowhead facility does look impressive. It will be interesting to see what products come from there in the future. It would be great to see United making high quality knives on a regular basis.

I still say that if the knife we are discussing had a well heat-treated 154CM blade (or even a good carbon steel...Hell, any good steel), and UC took all of those stupid ass ridges off the handle (top and bottom...when you hold one you'll see they serve no real purpose other than turning your hand into hamburger), this could be a practical tactical/outdoor knife. The blade design IS really nice when you see it up close, IMO.
