New user and new to knifemaking

I do woodworking and woodturning and want to try my had at making knifes. I am not interested in the creation of the metal part of the knife. I am thinking of some of the kits. My preference is to make some folding knifes with clips. Would these be good to start with or should I start with a nonfolding knife that would need a sheath. I haven't done anything with leather since summer camp about 35 years ago or so.

I have spent the last two evenings reading through posts here and have printed some out. There is some great information here for beginners and I thank all of you for your time.
