I have a caly zdp 189 frn that I scratched when I miss-stroked on the clip side while sharpening. I was wondering if flitz or something similar might or if I was gonna have to deal with the scratch. I am anal as hell and know every time I look at that scratch I will get irritated. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanx, Russ:eek:

Depends a lot on how deep the scratch is. Flitz, Simichrome, other metal polishes, even toothpaste will work if it's shallow enough. Definitely worth a try. 420J2 scratches easily, but should polish just as easily.

I would just try not to worry about the scratch. Flitz is more of a chemical polish; it's only very mildly abrasive. You may have to refinish the entire blade with successively finer grits for it to look right, and it's really not worth the trouble on a user.

If it makes you feel any better, here's a pic of my beat-up old VG-10 Calypso Junior. :) There are actually a lot more scratches running lengthwise on the blade that didn't show up in this light.

How exactly would you go about polishing scratches with toothpaste?
My poliwog has tons of scratches, but most are quite shallow. I wasn't really worried about them but if I can use toothpaste effectively, it's worth a shot.

I've seen the toothpaste trick mentioned before but I've never gotten it to work on any kind of scratches. Maybe there is a specific brand that actually works?
