New USMC with a Higher Grind

Note the higher than usual grind - it starts at the bottom of the fuller. It is quite sharp.

Coating stripped, steel cleaned up, handle thinned and dyed. eBay sheath.

Nice! Anyone know when the grind was changed? I really like the higher grind and the bare blade looks good too! :)

The silence is deafening, I would like to know as well. Looks more like a Camillus 1219C2 with that higher grind.

Yes. Reminds me of a '60s or early '70s Camillus. The edge is finer and sharper out of the box. I have now seen three leather ones in stores, a Kraton one in a store, and a leather one on youtube. A big improvement, in my opinion. This knife actually cuts. :)

I like your Youtube video and you actually speak intelligently about the knife and USMC history. So many reviewers are painful to listen to. Fuller, I mean "blood groove" - that was a good one! :)

Okay, found the other video with the higher grind USMC. Yeah, does look better, wonder why Ka-Bar hasn't said anything? I seem to recall Tooj mentioning something awhile back though.

Nice looking knife.

The higher grind is cool I guess, but I thought Ka-bar didn't want to change anything about the USMC knife and that's why they haven't bothered radiusing the blade/tang junction... I would think that with all the talk about the 90 degree transition being a stress riser they would have changed that if anything. Seems a bit odd but whatever, at least they'll cut better now.

Union Cutlery's early 1219C2s had *slightly* higher grinds. As the war went on, their grinds got lower. I've seen examples where the grinds started three-quarters of the way down the blade. Camillus, PAL, and Robeson *usually* ground them higher.

Hmmmmm, interesting. I got mine a year and some months ago. Big difference in the grind.

The original KA-BAR's (1940's) had the higher grind and it kept creeping down making the edge angle get steeper and steeper. The steeper the edge the less slice and more ax you get. By moving the grind back up to where it started the knife is considerable sharper and it makes the clip point much more pronounced. Awesome move.
