  • Today marks the 24th anniversary of 9/11. I pray that this nation does not forget the loss of lives from this horrible event. Yesterday conservative commentator Charlie Kirk was murdered, and I worry about what is to come. Please love one another and your family in these trying times - Spark

New USMC with a Higher Grind

Agree, this should improve cutting ability a lot. But they still use the old, smooth coating. Would have preferred the new coating like the Beckers have now

I would have thought that a park finish would have been preferable and cost effective.

Anybody seen this "high grind" in the 1250 Short KA-BARs yet...?

They REALLY need it... to the point of doin' it myself the next chance I get. They're like tent-stakes as is.

:D

Silvey's edition of Cole does not show a single WWII MK-II without a flat between the bottom of the fuller and the bevel. The size of that flat varied by manufacturer, as did the size of the flat above the fuller. In that they departed from the Marble's Ideal and the WW II-era Western knives that are closest to the MK-II.

Received my boxfresh USMC 1217 Ka-Bar today and it has the high grind. I really like it. There are noticeable differences between my 11yr old USMC and this new one - the high grind, slimmer handle and different shaped butt cap.
But, it is still a high quality piece of steel. You can see the many slight variations throughout the years, so this is just another iteration on a great piece of utilitarian steel.
