new version bk7

Lonewolf is right on about that.....

The new coating is a bit thicker and a lot grotier.......ie. tougher.....

The laser etch is actually a "theoretical" improvement.....In "theory" the laser adds no possible stress risers in the steel.......I say Theoretical because the actual incidence of blade failure from residual stress induced by the stamp is virtually unheard of......Especially as the heat treat comes AFTER the stamping........I only brought this up as an interesting bit of truly arcane data........Someting to impress a few friends with and the tuck it WAAAAAY back in your mind.....Fun, not significant..........

Oops.... .misspelled Grottier.....Also misused the word slightly......I have always thought of grotty mostly as tough and, down and dirty.....turns out the primary def. is nasty......Oh well, It IS tough as hell......

I like the new coating. I was batoning with both my 4 and older style 9 ad the coating didn't flake off on the 4 as easily as the 9. I'm definitely going to strip the 9 but I think I'm going to leave the 4's coating alone.
