New Web Specials

Congratulations. Mine is set for delivery tomorrow. First I've heard of any "bonus" knife.

Sorry, that was misleading. I bought the "bonus" knife for myself, as I've been wanting one of those simple pack lite capers for a while. You'll like the Vanguard. Best value I've gotten on a knife in a while.

I also just received my stag 192 today. It's made from a solid piece of horn with no wood strip down the spine. As such, the handle is 1/2" shorter and narrower than the standard 192, and about 1-2 ounces lighter. It's also more rounded on the right side and feels better in the right hand. Unfortunately I'm a lefty, but still really like the knife.

This knife was made 8/31/2011, so definately new off the assembly line.

Oh, OK. Thanks for the reply and the clarification.

I received a couple of the Vanguards yesterday as well as a couple of the 102s. All very nice knives. The difference between the handles on the two Vanguards was substantial. One had nice texture and color but was very large in diameter. The other had less texture and a smaller grip. That mirror polished blade sure is nice!

Waiting on the Zippers and Gen5s I ordered to join these! Should show up Friday.

Received my order today and am quite happy with all items. Here are the high points:

Vanguard 192 with stag handle.

Same dimensions as my other 192 which is the ATS-34 with blue Dymawood handle from the last Web Specials. The handle has quite a bit of bark on it and feels great. No issues or flaws that I've noticed so far. Knife is date stamped 2008 and the Limited Edition box end label is stamped 07/17/2008. The sheath is light tan, nicely done and stamped 191 on the back side. This is a keeper.

Gen 5 Skinner with bone.

As I posted in the other thread this one came with no markings on it at all. End label on box is dated 12-03-2009. Love the white bone. Very clean look to the whole knife. It would for sure be a nice platform for some scrimshaw. Another keeper.

102 Woodsman with orangewood handle.

This is my first 102 and only my 2nd of the smaller 100 series knives (just acquired a late 60's 105) and it's pretty nice. I like the orangewood. If I had to chose between the 102 and the 105 for woodscraft I'd opt for the 105 but this would be a handy one for lighter duty. Maybe I should buy another three, they'd make an interesting set of steak knives.

Will try to get some photos in the upcoming SPS. Once again a big thanks to everyone at Buck Knives!

Several of the recent web special 192's are showing up on Ebay. I decided to send mine to my brother, who is right handed. Kicking myself now for cancelling the order for a second 192.

Several of the recent web special 192's are showing up on Ebay.

I noticed that. Of the two I saw listed, one has a shot of the end label on the box and it's dated 08/31/2011. Wonder if some, like mine, were made in 2008 and stuck in inventory for some reason then when it was decided to put them on the Web Special Buck used up the rest of the material on hand in August. That would explain, in my view why you basically have two identical knives, built three years apart. Would be interesting to hear from other buyers as to which production run (2008 or 2011) most of these are? The one listed on they bay with the 2011 label looks identical to mine only with less bark on the left side of the handle.

I just popped open a box with a couple Zippers and Gen5s. What handsome knives! I kinda wish my Vanguards had the handles off these Zippers. Really nice stag on the Zippers. Those Gen5s are very nice knives. I may have to see if Leesa Martin can do something special to one of them!

I may just have to snag one of the zippers while still avaliable. Someone grabbed the Ebay 192 stag for BIN price of $110, so there is some demand.

Say fellers, how often do the web specials come around / change?

Had the same question the other day. Did a search here for "Web Specials" and based on the time frame of the different threads posted I'd say APPROXIMATELY every 4 months. The previous one was in May but the one before that was last November so on average I figured three times a year but there is no defined schedule for them that I know of. In a way it's cheap fun to check the Buck site every few days, or minutes depending on your level of addiction and see if there is a surprise waiting there.

Thanks for the heads-up on the web special Badhammer!I wasn't looking to buy another knife right now but that Stag Vanguard changed my mind.
