Hey Everyone, Just posted a brand new wood, and one I doubt many of you have ever worked with. Ipe Burl. This stuff is incredibly. Harder and tougher than ironwood, 100% waterproof and dense as heck! Did I mention its burly? Eyes for days on this stuff. You can find it under

Ipe burl at www.greenbergwoods.com

This is one of the more expensive woods, But the burl is rare, the waste is High, and I always cut for maximum beauty. The dark spots are a bit of dust that got onto the surface during laquer spraying, those will not be there on a finished product. I had these packed up and didnt notice them.

Nice stuff, never seen it before myself. I really like those dark lines.

Its funny. When I worked at the wood shop I probably sold 10,000 pounds of the normal lumber as decking. But the burls are insane. I used a 5 hp saw with carbide blade and still had to go slow. This stuff is pretty amazing.

I was just checking into Ipe Burl. It is neat. Deserves a lot more use.

Do you think they need to be stabilized?

Definitely not. The wood is incredibly dense and stable. When I worked at a place that sold decking, i tried sending a few coupons of ipe lumber to K&G, the weight gain was 3 or 4 percent, so its basically worthless to have done.

I picked up a piece of this stuff from Ben. It seems to me that it is a bit better than ironwood as far as density / hardness, and very impressive beauty in the burl.
I haven't worked it yet, so I don't know how it will treat me, but I am definitely saving this for a deserving blade. It's nice!
